2007 Volvo S40 5 cylinder

Summary:

I would not buy it again

Faults:

The sunroof and A/C drain failed and it flooded the interior.

The starter failed.

The headliner sags.

The struts are leaking.

The A/C is now working intermittently.

General Comments:

It’s the worst car I have owned. Despite the low mileage, everything is falling apart.

The S40 from this time is poorly built and nothing like Volvo of old (70s 80s and 90s). Believe me I know, I had two of them, 2006 1.6 S, then a 2009 2.0 SE, both rubbish.

Some blame the Ford takeover in 1999.

Here's an update - with 71,000 miles the automatic transmission has failed, and the cost to repair the transmission exceeds the value of the car, so I will now have to sell the car for parts.

Does not surprise me, the auto transmission on these cars was terrible. They will fail at some point after just 50,000 miles.

Compare that to Volvo's of the past that managed 250,000 miles or more on original engine and transmission. I can comment as I have owned a 240, 850, S70, and S40 and S60 Volvo's. The S40 was easily the worst. Capable, nice enough cars, just not as reliable as others.

2007 Volvo S40 2.5 Turbo AWD

Summary:

Good value as long as maintenance is kept up with

Faults:

Moon roof drains leaked inside (had to replace over engineered hoses), headlight assemblies not adjustable, poorly made, inferior wiring in headlight assemblies, headliner sagged.

General Comments:

I replaced the timing belt, water pump & associated parts, not enough room to work on engine bay, I love the car's handling / performance (Turbo, AWD), would be nice to have the ability to shut-off headlights during day driving. Would be great if more manual transmission models were available in the AWD version and "without" moonroof.

I had one of these, good cars, but the headliner sagged in my car also after only 8 years. Pretty poor quality for a modern car; I remember back in the day seeing headliner sagging in only very, very old cars at 20 plus years old.

2007 Volvo S40 2.4I 2.4I

Summary:

It's a volvo safety first

Faults:

I have had only interior problems 2 to be exact the interior mirror was loose, rattles, dealer fix under warranty, and now the sun roof is off the track and rattles, will open all the way, but it won't vent and rattles with the interior shade opened.

The dealer is great setup a appointment and offer me a loner, hopefully no other problems.

General Comments:

I love this car great styling, comfortable, reliable, very sexy lines and a large trunk. Much quicker than most people reviewng says.. 170hp is plenty handling is on the mark.

2007 Volvo S40 2.4i 2.4 non-turbo

Summary:

Can't see, brake or steer, but nice styling!

Faults:

The car is comfortable, but since it's sporty it bounces a lot on the highway (especially on LA high ways). The B-pillars are too wide (6-7") and it's really hard to see when passing the cars on the left. Steering is too responsive and always has to be adjusted (not sporty, just too responsive and is annoying because its always needs to be corrected. Brakes are weak and really slushy just like 98-up Camry's.

General Comments:

Nice car, I love the ride and style, but the above things really made me hate this car.

I rented this car with 6000mi on it and drove it for 1500mi in 5 days in California.

I went from LA to Santa'Barbara to Las Vegas to Hover Dam and things like that.

I really love the styling of exterior and interior.

The centre console was making noise (at 6000mi) which is kinda early for 2007 car, but I am sure its fixable and the console just needs a little TLC.

The steering did appear overly assisted at first, but once I got used to it, the steering is subtle and excellent.
