2004 Volvo XC90 T6

Summary:

Volvo has lost me as a customer on this transmission problem

Faults:

Steering Rack - Replaced under warranty.

Transmission - out of warranty @ 91,000 km.

General Comments:

Transmission just blew for no reason. We drive the car properly and never abuse it. Transmission just fell apart and is now at the dealer with a $7,000 estimate. They're either going to have to fix it under a good will gesture as we are just over the 80,000 km warranty level, but under 4 years, or we're taking it to a transmission specialist that we know and will get it rebuilt and trade it in for something better built.

2004 Volvo XC90 xc90

Summary:

Not good

Faults:

My car is three years old. We replaced transmission at 1,500 miles, under warranty when car came to a complete stop while driving on freeway with my two young children. The second transmission had to be replaced last month, and the car was no longer under warranty although the service department was great about working with us and getting Volvo to replace as a one time good gesture. My fear is that the transmission will go out again and at $4,400 repair on top of the safety concerns, I think it is time to just walk away and never own a Volvo again. Sadly, because I was so excited about their reputation for safety and believed this would be the perfect car for our family. There have also also been multiple other service issues with worn tires, brakes, etc.

2004 Volvo XC90 T6

Summary:

I am very disappointed in Volvo and will be looking into a class action lawsuit

Faults:

Water damage from a defective water valve.

Transmission went at 60,000 miles.

General Comments:

My husband ordered my 2004 Volvo XC90 from Sweden in 2003. It was delivered during the summer of 2003. I have had several major problems with the truck starting with water damage as a result of a faulty duct system back in 2005. My truck had a terrible mildew odor. The entire bottom of the truck was flooded and took two weeks to dry out and fix. Luckily it was still under warranty. Since that time, whenever it rains, I get that same awful mildew smell.

About two months ago, my transmission light came on and about a month ago, it started to slip. Now I am in need of a new transmission. My car is no longer under warranty and Volvo gave me a quote of $6,000 to fix.

I think this is absolutely ridiculous. I have been the owner of two Honda's and two Toyota's all purchased certified pre-owned and never had as many problems as I’ve had with my brand new XC90.

After reading so many comments about the XC90 transmission issues, this is definitely grounds for a class action law suit. There should have been some sort of recall.

Let get a CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT started.

As I stated in a previous comment on a newer Volvo, I am not remotely impressed with Volvo's quality. After driving Lincolns since 1984 my elderly mom switched to Volvo in 2006. The car rides rougher, performs worse and has a lower build quality than our 7 year old GM car, and is way below the quality of our 2007 Ford. Unlike Jaguar, which seemed to become a far BETTER vehicle after being taken over by Ford, Volvo seems to have made a 180 degree turn in the opposite direction.

2004 Volvo XC90

Faults:

Transmission went at 62,000 miles. Drove it into the dealer with a bad noise. They did a test drive and blew up the transmission within an hour, and called me and said the $6K would fix the problem. Most of my previous repairs at the dealer took a few visits to get fixed properly.

I had it towed to a place that fixes transmissions, not just puts in rebuilt ones, and had it fixed for $3K.

I loved the car, but am really not sure why the tranny went so soon. May buy another Volvo, but definitely not at that dealer.

General Comments:

Definitely love the ride, comfort, and performance of the XC-90. Very disappointed that it failed in this way.
