1992 Honda Civic ESi 1.6 VTEC

Faults:

It has never had any problems with the engine. Only wearing parts have been replaced.

The biggest problem is rust, especially around the rear wheel arches. Furthermore, it has rust on the edges of the doors. One wheel arch rear was cut off and a new one was welded on in 2010. In 2015 the wheel arches have again become rusty; this is however because the car is used in a country with a lot of salting of the roads in winter.

Have had minor problems with the electricals; high beam stopped working due to broken wires.

General Comments:

I love the acceleration in lower gears; far more responsive than most cars. The "Baby VTEC" allows you to drive the gears at high RPM.

2007 Honda Civic Type S 2.2 I-CTDI turbo diesel

Summary:

The enthusiastic Honda

Faults:

* Some minor squeaks inside the cabin.

* Software had to be updated because of a fault indication on the oil level, and something regarding diesel particle filter regeneration.

* Worn right side door stopper.

General Comments:

Positives:

* A very sporty but yet practical car.

* The handling is nearly perfect compared to other cars in the class.

* Fantastic diesel engine.

* Big luggage capacity and many smart storage solutions.

* Rare in Norway.

* Futuristic and 'head turning' design.

* Fine stereo unit with Cd, mp3 and Wma playback.

* Twin air conditioning.

* Honda build quality.

Negatives:

* The armrests, both in the front and back, are poorly stuffed, on longer journeys it gets painful having the elbows placed on the armrests.

* Adjustments for the lower back should have been standard on the seats.

* Reversing the car is difficult and clumsy. Parking sensors should have been standard.

* The spring on the seat belts are too tight. When the belts are released they are sent backwards very hard against the pillar, leaving unwanted marks in the plastic.

* The stereo unit lacks a "scrolling" display, long artist and track names need to be manually scrolled.

1998 Honda Civic 1.4iS 1.4

Summary:

A fair buy

Faults:

No faults to date.

General Comments:

Very smooth engine, with little power at lower revs, but fun from 4,500 to 7,000 RPM.

Driving position nice when adjusted carefully.

Good braking - anti blocking system (ABS) effective even on sheet ice.

Power steering has unpleasantly little feedback - the one point that would probably stop me buying another one.

Quite a lot of tyre noise.

The 3 door model looks nice and gets lots of complements even from younger drivers.

Anti blocking is actually anti locking, browsers should make sure they know the difference as ignorance can kill.
