1992 Nissan Sunny SLX 1.6 SLX

Sunshine makes me happy, as does my Sunny

Rust is eating her up.

Right headlight grew weak after 3 years of ownership (it's probably been in the car much longer)

After 4 years of ownership the power windows, windshield fluid pump and central locking stopped working (not a fuse, haven't had this checked out yet). Sunroof still works like a charm though!

Front seat screws growing weary after 16 years of people going in and out, starting to get jiggly.

General Comments:

Super car! Always starts right up independent of outside temperature (I've been the only one driving to school with a full parking lot behind me full of cars that didn't start)

90hp carries the car well, although when fully loaded with people and luggage it can get a little on the weak side.

Everything FITS in this car! I've packed it up in all ways possible and never have I had to give up and get a bigger transport! Bikes, IKEA-furniture, 3 people + snowboards and 3x luggage for a week: no problem!

(Note: I have the hatchback)

Interior is perfect even after all these years, however, the outside is really feeling the elements. Mine has rust growing in the canals and on the side of the rear quarter-panels. There is no easy fix to this so I'm just trying all I can to keep it pacified. Unfortunately this is common with all Japanese vehicles (except for those driven where they don't salt the roads) of this age so I don't expect it to live forever.

It's a sturdy companion that never gives up, gives me excellent fuel economy, keeps well on the road, has plenty of power and a crucially low maintenance cost.

I'm definitely buying Nissan next time!

Very well, I would own another one! (If it had 4 doors and 1600-engine)

One of the threads in the rear window defroster broke at 144000. Nothing bad, though.

The clutch burnt out at 145000 due to erratic driving and a lot of clutch-hanging instead of holding on the brake when standing in road crossings etc.

A little rust under the wheel arches (front)

General Comments:

This car is great. The clutch was already worn when I bought it, but I replaced it. I have recently been on a 1013 km long trip in Norway, and the car handled exceptionally.

It is very reliable and it always starts, even if it is -30 celsius degrees.

The heater is effective and I usually start the car before I go to work in the morning 6-7 minutes before I am off. When I get to the car, it is warm and comfortable.

Automatic choke is a bit staggered though. If the car has been parked for a week or so, the engine might die after a couple seconds running and needs a re-start, but it will run fine after that.

The only reason I am selling it is that 1300 ccm engine is a bit too small for me, and I definitely need more than a 3-door-combi-car, regarding the amount of passengers I usually bring with me every day. It is kind of inconvenient having to step out of the car whenever a backseat passenger is leaving the vehicle.

Cheap - Reliable - Fast - Nice

The Gearbox is about to die... Just a matter of time I suspect.

The hat-shelf kept closing the rear hatch due to its own weight.

Car tends to get caught in the wind. Although it's quite streamline formed, its front spoiler almost drags it off the road when it's windy.

I think there is a dynamo fault, the battery has been a little touch-n-go lately. I haven't bothered confirming it as the car still drives perfectly.

General Comments:

This car is extremely good to drive, I live in Norway and experience a lot of different terrain, and the car handles them all excellently. Snow, Mud, Burning hot asphalt, Ice - the Sunny eats them for breakfast. The acceleration is extreme on the 1.6 model, it's almost like driving an Audi RS2, you get kicked back into the seat and it just keeps on accelerating and accelerating.

It's a very good car with serious driving potential. It handles as if the car knows where the road is going, and braking is very good.

I have been very unfortunate and the car got ran into when I was turning into my home. But I have sustained no injuries at all from this collision. The car however got its frame dented and as a cause of this - the idiots at the wrecking yard decided it was a lost case. May it rest in peace.

A cheap, fast, reliable but boring car.

The radiator has got a small leakage.

The front dampers needs to be replaced.

There is a rattling sound coming from the steering system when I drive over bumps.

General Comments:

The car is very quick compared to other cars in this class, the GA16i engine is really powerful.

But what I really miss on this car is servo and steering wheel tilting.

The exterior might seem a bit plain too.

Nothing has gone wrong in 5 years but the car has only clocked 65000km.

General Comments:

I have put 15" alloy wheels with 195/50-15 tyres on it so the ride is a bit stiff but handling is much better.

The most reliable car I have had in the last 20 years!
