2000 Toyota Camry 2.2

Summary:

A very reliable and economic car

Faults:

During my ownership I have replaced brake discs, handbrake wires and both front brake calipers. The brake problems are probably partly due to heavy salting of roads in Norway during winter.

The windscreen also had to be replaced (almost 500 Euro) due to wear.

During the last year a flexible tube in the exhaust was replaced, as a leakage had developed. That cost about 250 Euro in Germany. The cooler was also replaced for a new, unoriginal item, and cost about 180 Euro (also in Germany).

Relatively early in my ownership I changed the starter motor myself. The part price was only about 120 Euro.

General Comments:

I also have a 1995 Corolla, which has about 319 000 km at the moment. Even though the Camry has been relatively cheap to own (I bought it for about 1440 Euro in April 2018, with 378 000 km / 235 000 miles), the Corolla has given even fewer problems/expenses.

Anyway, the Toyotas that I had (2 Camrys, 1 Corolla) were way better than other car brands that I owned from my experiences.

The Camry also seems to have excellent paint. From a distance of a few meters or more, the 22 year old car shines more than many brand new cars.

Excellent car.

I can still get 0.62 litres / 10 km from it, if going on a longer trip and being light on the accelerator.

1984 Toyota Camry DX 1.8

Summary:

Quick, roomy, and reliable family car

Faults:

Rust inn doors and front wings.

Heater broke down, easy to repair.

Handbrake-wire often broke.

Window crank-handle broke on both sides in front.

General Comments:

The car is quick and easy to drive. Faster inn acceleration than my present Audi 80 1,8

It never stopped running, but I had to give it up because of rust.

Otherwise it was a roomy and safe car to drive.
