1985 Toyota Carina DX 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Much car at low cost

Faults:

The exhaust-system simply fell off due to rust.

One towing due to minor ignition fault.

Otherwise nothing.

General Comments:

Amongst, the ugliest designs ever, but dead cheap, with fuel consumption as low as 5 litres every 100 kilometres.

The car is roomy and comfy, even for long rides. The handling is soft, and the car tends to understeer when fully loaded. Light on the wheel, no need for power-steering.

I can rely on this car every morning.

It starts on first stroke in -20 degrees Celcius, and the engine runs as smooth as any new one.

Tends to rust though. Clearly not a construction designed for Scandinavian climate.

1982 Toyota Carina Diesel 1.8 diesel

Summary:

Slow, cheap and reliable

Faults:

A very reliable car for its age.

Did only change small things like brushes on the dynamo etc.

General Comments:

This was my first car.

All of my friends laughed at me when I was ragging through town in a 55 HP diesel.

Not a perfect car for a youngster, but reliability and low fuel costs, gave me the opportunity to spend money on other things as well.
