What is your experience with LPG conversion with regard to its engine performance, maintenance & mileage?

2006 Honda City iDsi 1.3

Faults:

Used a City IDSi for approximately 1 year, mileage 21,000.

Noticed advantages:

Roomy interior.

Interesting, out of the box exterior styling.

Out of the box interior.

Large car for the money, with a roomy interior.

Fuel mileage high if kept below 80.

Even the base model comes fully loaded.

Shortcomings:

Poor handling, cornering (even with replaced imported tires).

Poor high speed stability (the car seems to be going much faster than it really is).

Poor braking, almost as bad as that of Corolla (I am really surprised at comments rating the brakes as high).

Interior of the car does not seem to be durable enough, and also appears cheap and poorly stamped. Needs improvement in materials. Door panels seem to be cheap and poorly stamped?? Attention to detail??? I think not.

Rough ride on even smooth roads.

Flexible body structure. Rattles from the body. Dashboard shakes.

Constant corrections to the steering are needed to keep the car going in a straight line.

Only 2 poor sounding speakers in a Rs. 840,000 car?

Poor quality cassette player radio in a 840,000 rs car?? Come on Honda. This is too much to absorb.

Executive summary for prospective buyers:

I also have a 2004 Santro and a Corolla 2004 (1300cc GLi). My overall impression is that although the Corolla has its shortcomings, an XLi makes for a better car than the City. My Corolla certainly feels tighter and more solid even after 70000 km than the one year old City. Given the choice, I am likely to opt for a Corolla in the 1300cc segment. The Corolla 1300cc has a better pickup, and handles better except for the brakes.

If you're on a budget (less than Rs. 350,000), try to find a Suzuki Margalla; it makes for a GREAT car. Good predictable brakes, excellent high speed stability, beautiful pickup even on CNG, smooth drive. The Suzuki Margalla remains the best kept secrets in Pakistan. Try to find one in good original condition, and you are really gonna enjoy its generally beautiful drive; a car that feels rock solid stable even at 140.

2002 Honda City EXIS 1.3

Summary:

Very nice car

Faults:

There is continuous sound coming from dashboard (meter area) for first 20-30 km in the morning, during winter. According to one mechanic, its meter's oil not working properly in cooler conditions.

After CNG conversion, RPMs go down in neutral gear, which results in few problems off and on.

General Comments:

Very good car, but I think Honda should also introduce some more economical/ low powered cars in Pakistan.

Factory fitted CNG cars should also be availabe, considering the high prices of petrol.

2005 Honda City i.DSi

Summary:

It is better to buy Civic

Faults:

The car has no pick this dis allows the car to run faster.

Gives an average of 9.5km ascompared to the manufacturers claim that it provides 15km average

Uncomfortable seats especially for those sitting on the back seats.

Very low quality of materials used

Cannot be used in bumpy areas due to hard shocks.

General Comments:

Over all the car is good, but the quality is very low as compare to the money demanded by the manufacturers.

2004 Honda City sdi 1.3

Faults:

The mileage of car to me at least is highly disturbing. It is giving on the average 9.5 km per liter in the city driving conditions and around 13/14 km per liter in the highway condition. Despite lot of contacts and visits to the Honda workshop nothing has been done by them. The car is still giving same low mileage per liter.

General Comments:

The automatic door glass working started faltering and continued to do so despite visit to the workshop.

2004 Honda City i.DSI Vario 1.3 petrol

Summary:

The overall best 1.3 cc locally manufactured car

Faults:

The interior silver plastic parts, that cover the gear shift area and power window buttons, scratches easily and thus leaves scratch marks.

General Comments:

This car is quick, handles and steers well.

The braking system is excellent.

The seats are not as comfortable as my previous car.

Its aerodynamic look (to me) outclasses the rest.

The interior is simply beautiful and nicely blends in with the aerodynamic look.

It has the smoothest and quietest run at no expense of performance and acceleration.

It corners well with no slippage or grip loss.

You can easily turn the steering wheel with one finger, its so light and responsive.

All in all, it feels as if you are in a solidly built car that knows how to be the best in all conditions.

The suspension is not that good, running at 40mph you can hear a sharp crash when you run over a small hump (like a reflector in the middle of a road), I think its the shock absorber?

20th Apr 2006, 14:19

I agree that the shock absorber of this car is not that good. This is the only comment I have with this car, the engine and performance is very good!

3rd May 2007, 03:20

The Honda City is a good car, but is not durable, because its body gets dented very easily, and the paint from the interior plastic parts wears off a lot sooner than normal.
