1987 Fiat 126 0,650

Summary:

Ideal first car for young couple

General Comments:

It is not very fast, but it was not supposed to. It's the best solution for crowded towns - short, easy to park. It consumes about 5,5-6,0 l/100 km, which is not bad, but could be better. Easy to open without your keys (some %$%%^$ have stolen my radio and everything that was in the trunk). Ideal first car. In Poland every mechanic can fix it without any problems.

I had one years back in Poland, and all what I could say it was a total piece of junk. Point. No power, 23 HP only, for a car? Bad fuel economy, totally unsafe in an accident, no forced heating or ventilation (the car have to be moving to have air flow), front steering needed a grease job every 1500 km!!!

It was the biggest communist joke, they say - you want a car, we give you one. And laugh after. And yes I have a sentiment for the car only because it was the first one I had.

1991 Fiat 126

Summary:

Funny, but not reliable

Faults:

Leaking oil.

Problems with electrics (especially with ignition.)

Suspension is not reliable.

General Comments:

This car is not suported for long journeys. Engine is not reliable - performance is poor, but nobody expects miracles from a 650cc . Driving can be fun.

You get what you pay for. They will never match a Porsche, but are a little cheaper.

1995 Fiat 126 ELX 650 cc

Summary:

Fuel consumption to power ration is far away from any expectation

Faults:

When temperature was lower than -10C, the windscreen engine failed.

Steering knuckles worn out after 78000 km.

Coils current supply failed after 88000 km - root cause was a broken wire under the rear seats!? It took 1 week to localize the root cause.

Endless oil leaks from the engine and gearbox.

General Comments:

Pretty small car and old design.

I had a lot of problems, especially with engine and battery in low temperatures (for this car low means -5C).

Windscreen is freezing inside the car when the temperature is below -5C. It is nightmare.

Heating system insufficient.

Fuel consumption out of acceptable levels: 5.7 litre per 100 km. 5.5l/100 km and just only 21 HP.

If you have got your own repair shop, this car is for you. You are able to repair everything by yourself. Spare parts really cheap (in Poland).

To keep a 126p alive, you have to put a lot of efforts every 7 000 km for review and small repairs.

Hello!

I drive my Polish Fiat 126p since year 2000 and I can't complain. Nothing has broken and I have already done 80 000 km.

Yours faithfully,

Michael Troosh.

What do you expect from a super cheap car designed in early 70s? A Ferrari 458 Italia?

1988 Fiat 126 p 0.650

Summary:

Good first car

Faults:

Brakes gone down few times.

General Comments:

This car is a living legend in Poland.

Fiat 126p can be as fast as Ferrari if you are a good driver, but the comfort is little bit lower.

It is simple to repair and cheap.
