1994 Citroen ZX Tonic 1.4i, petrol (TU3)

Summary:

Underrated by its too bland look and lack of quality feel on the plastics

Faults:

There was a blown radiator hose a few years ago (my mother was the only one that drove it back then, and never checked the coolant level).

The cables on one of the back windows rusted and broke (lack of use).

The bottom of the boot rusted (again, it's because she never cared about wiping spilled detergents and water).

General Comments:

A very comfortable car.

Too fast, really. The gearbox reduces very little: the top speed on second gear is 90 km/h!

Shifts smoothly although the gearbox linkages are a bit worn (the other driver, my mother, uses the knob to hold herself in place)

Handles very well due to the 4-wheel (passive) steering system.

The combination of a well designed suspension and good ground clearance make it perfect for bad roads.

The plastics can rattle a bit, but even that is easily solved at home.

Mechanics are very simple and many repairs can be done at home. There isn't much to go wrong.

1993 Citroen ZX Avantage 1.1

Faults:

Mostly I've had problems with the IR door locks, and it seems that the car's electrical system (user focussed) is not at all "bullet proof". It does have some problems with right side door locks and window electrical system, as well as the console lighting, which is not functioning.

General Comments:

I found this car to be an exceptional well built car. It's almost 7 years old and there are no major noises, and the engine is running quite smoothly.

Its cornering stability is impecable, and it's amazing how you can travel for 200 Km and not feel cramped up, due to its very good driving position and overall performance. It's been projected to take on the open road, with a good dose of comfort.

It's quite cheap to maintain and very cheap to drive.

It's my best car, and I also have a BMW...

Is it not true that the zx advantage, 93 model had to be recalled due to a fault, this in my girlfriends case was never done and has now spent 3 months in the garage after Citroen dealers refused to touch it.

What is this guy on about. make some sense. interpret his comments in three ways: 1. The ZX had no problems 2. The ZX had problems that your girlfriend did not get fixed 3. your girlfriend was recalled.

Can't wait to find out which it was... Safe money is on number 3.

I have a citroen zx 1.9 diesel 1992 model.

It seems this had the same problem with no lights on the dash.

I traced it to open circuit track on the lighting panel.

Only had it a few weeks, but very happy so far.

Phill.
