2001 Opel Corsa Sport 1.2 petrol

Summary:

Avoid it

Faults:

I purchased the car in August 2001, and everything seemed nice. The first time I washed it, I noticed that the paint-job looked weird, but I didn't care much about it. I was out of country for a month, and when I got back, the ink was falling apart to the ground! There were little spots of rust all over the car (notice that the car was in the garage all this time).

The dealer services were (and are) appalling in all levels. By the first time I went there, they told me that that happened because the car was parked near a train station (the car was in garage, and the closest station is about 14km from my home)! This is ridiculous! Maybe they should write in the advertising: "Don't buy the new Corsa if you live near a train station!"

I don't know what is going to happen next. Opel services are inefficient, and I have to write a load of letters in order to obtain an answer.

I thought that this problem was unique, but I found out a person that went through the same problem with a Corsa. Opel didn't do anything to him, and he had to sell the car before it cracked up all the paint-job.

Forget Opel. Try another car.

General Comments:

It is a average small car, with not much interesting things to say about it.

I am very disappointed with Opel service. I already owned a Nissan, a Volvo and a Toyota. All those cars were great (especially the Volvo) and so were the dealers. I thought that Opel would be just like it... but I was wrong.

And remember... if you want to buy a Corsa, check if you live near a train station first...!

1995 Opel Corsa Swing 1.4i

Summary:

Good highway car, excellent city car..

Faults:

The only real problem I had with the car was an electronic one, due to a mobile lighter-recharger, that damaged the car lighter and blew a fuse, that was connected with the automatic gear-box... It was easily repaired when the car-lighter was disconnected.

Another problem in most Corsas and Opels I know is the 4 blinker button... (can't they arrange another process?...)

General Comments:

Really good car, spends a little bit more gasoline then normal in city, but is quite a fun car to drive. A little bit slow in acceleration, but after rolling it is sure to achieve a 170km/h top speed, with no difficulties.

In Portugal they say they changed the 1.4i engines, passing from 82bhp to 60bhp (I doubt it), I really don't feel the difference.

I am an owner of an Opel Corsa Swing 1 liter - I have had this car for 3 years now - since, it never stopped giving me trouble.

Had to change the GR Valve twice - they also changed for me the temperature sensor - several times I had to take it in as the water level was going down after two/three days - the A/C was not cooling properly and it was losing gas. And other minor faults which makes you irritated because you have each time to take the car to be fixed besides expenses every time.

The Opel personnel and mechanics were very helpful and they do simpathise with me. Never had a car in my life which gave me so much trouble.

1999 Opel Corsa Eco 1.0

Summary:

Good first car

Faults:

Nothing yet!

General Comments:

Nice little car for European city driving. Very economical and easy to drive. The suspension is very soft, but materials used in the interior are rather cheap and uneasy.

Eats front tires like rabbits do carrots.

Rather fast, easily reaches 170kmph (don't tell anyone!).

It does have a slight overturning problem.

Great brakes.
