1992 Renault 19 RN 1.4e

Summary:

Could be worst for the money payed

Faults:

Distributor replaced at 90000Km

Clutch replaced at 120000Km

Carburetor parts replaced at 122000Km

Water cooling system partly replaced at 125000Km

Rear brakes replaced at 130000

Fuel light doesn't work.

Instrument counts 1Km for every 100mts.

All other parts replaced as normal: oil, filter, sparks, cambelts.

General Comments:

Good car until 100000Km, after that every 10000Km needs something new and expensive, good thing his that he first lets one "know" when something is getting wrong.. that way one go first to an mechanic.

Fuel consumption is OK if you don't get over 3000RPM, good handling on road and predictable behavior.

1994 Renault 19 RTi 1.4e E7J

Summary:

A very good family car

Faults:

Clutch at 100000 km.

Alternator 110000 km.

General Comments:

Safe and easy to drive.

However lousy brakes, the disc are too small and not ventilated.

Very comfortable, the best seats I ever know in a compact family car.

Standard pieces are cheap (ex: bumpers).

Very nice equipment, such as air conditioning, power steering, alloy wheels, fog lights, radio with controls behind the wheel, which is partially in leather (from 16V).

1997 Renault 19

Summary:

You better spend your money on another car...

Faults:

Small and annoying problems.

General Comments:

I hated this car. That's why I got rid of it so soon. The engine has a lousy performance, the plastics used in the car interior are awful (!!), the handling is not good enough for a car of its kind, the worst part is probably the reliability.

I have had my R19 for 15 years and it's still going strong.
