1988 Volkswagen Golf C 1.3 petrol

Summary:

Great, eco

Faults:

Carburetor failing on idle - replaced support.

4 speed gearbox synchronisers went - replaced with a 5 speed gearbox.

Water through the door panels.

Elevators from front windows replaced.

Normal wear and tear.

General Comments:

Amazing!

I always liked the mk2 Golf. When the chance came for buying one for 150€, I couldn't resist! It's austere, but practical, economical and great to drive.

Also, I love the repeated comments from girls "oh, what a cute car!"

Extremely well built, everything runs like it should.

Amazingly cheap to run - I spent a total of 140€ on repairs, with all of the above!

It's not a high performance, late model car, but somehow it makes you feel superior in traffic!

I really recommend the Golf MK2, since it is undoubtedly becoming an economical, reliable and practical classic car.

A classic specialist told me that these cars will become the "new Vespas" in terms of fashion.

I like it so much I'm buying a second one, but a 1.6!

If you're reading this, buy one before the price rises - you definitely won't regret it!

2005 Volkswagen Golf Comfortline TDI 1.9 turbo diesel

Faults:

1. Front discs replaced. They were too noisy.

2. Central locking button stopped working; replaced under warranty.

3. Around 140.000 Km, the clutch pedal after driving for hours on the highway without pressure. It happened 3 or 4 times, and after pressing it several times, normal behaviour.

General Comments:

Great car, low fuel burner, low maintenance - a combat car!

1989 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 GTD intercooler

Summary:

Is a surprising car when estimated

Faults:

The direction assist "scream" when I turn the wheels.

Motor head blew at 302,000.

Brakes.

Suspension at 300,000.

General Comments:

Is fast (for the class) and it is very economic, especially because in Portugal petrol is very expensive.

However is not comfortable and is very unstable in curves.

We can go at 190Km/h and that costs us 7l/100km.

1988 Volkswagen Golf GTD 1.9 turbo diesel intercooler

Summary:

It's a very good car!

Faults:

The car isn't new so minor things had to be checked out, like oil, brakes, direction and motor.

The car came with a 1.6 turbo diesel motor, I've changed to a 1.9 turbo diesel and added an intercooler.

One thing this car used to have broken is the lights switch. I had to change mine and I know lots of other cars that have that switch broken.

General Comments:

It's a car for all purposes! Very comfortable (original Recaro seats), very fast and very stable in curves. It never let me down...
