2014 Hyundai Tucson NU 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Better than expected

Faults:

So far there is no reliability issue.

General Comments:

It was time for me to change my company car after 4 years of ownership. My previous car was the 2010 Honda CR-V, which I personally think is a great car. At first, I was looking for a Japanese branded crossover, but due to the limited budget and the rising price of cars in my country, the only Japanese crossover that I could afford is the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, which I think is too small for my family use. I started to look for Korean branded cars.

After testing the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai Tucson, I decided to choose the Hyundai, because in my opinion, the interior quality is better. At first, I was a little bit worried with the reliability, but after nearly 6 months of owning it, I've never experienced a single problem with it.

Overall, the car is a lot better than I thought. It's not as spacious as its Japanese counterparts, but the size is adequate enough for my daily lifestyle. The interior is very impressive. It seems the designers are clever enough to hide the cheap feel of the cabin. The arm rests are very functional for your arm, unlike my previous car where the arm rests don't give much benefit. The seats are one of my favorite parts. They're very grippy and comfortable. The only part that I don't like is the radio switch, which feels a little cheap.

The engine is not as smooth as my previous car, but it's still smooth for my standard. Due to the smaller size, it's a lot easier to park it compared to my previous car. Another reason is because the visibility is a lot better than my previous car.

In terms of driving, this car feels a lot lighter than my CR-V, possibly because it's smaller. I find this car to be more enjoyable to drive than the CR-V.

Overall, I am very happy with this car, and I might be looking forward to buying another Hyundai in the future. My only drawback is the fuel economy, which is okay, but not as impressive as its Japanese rivals. Thankfully, my company pays all the fuel consumption, so this does not bother me at all.

2005 Hyundai Tucson 2.0L

Summary:

Be most happy with what you get at the price

Faults:

Air con works fine in town driving, but very long distance drives sees it getting weak and inefficient.

General Comments:

This is a value for money car, with lots of space for a low price.

It looks good and comes with very good safety ratings.

The price you pay for getting a cheap SUV is a lack of engine refinement. The base 2.0L power plant is uncouth, and not particularly energetic on slopes.
