2003 Renault Megane Dynamique 1.6 16v

Summary:

Gorgeous car, but not sure if it is reliable

Faults:

Fuel pump stopped working (R4500).

A/C is making a knocking noise.

High level brake light keeps falling off the back window.

Battery needed replacing shortly after purchase (R856).

Needed a service (R1150).

Needed two new tyres (R1250).

Needed the brake pads replaced (R690).

Needed the engine belts greased, since they were screeching on pull off.

Central locking motor in the right back door needed replacing (R800).

General Comments:

Lovely car to drive when it works.

Is very light on fuel, but is heavy on everything else.

My Megane is absolutely packed with luxury and safety features, such as curtain airbags, steering mounted audio controls and auto wipers. It looks absolutely stunning.

I am however beginning to regret the purchase, as the car seems to need constant repairs and adjustments. When parts are ordered, they take ages to arrive, and are extremely costly. I think waiting a month and a half for a fuel pump is crazy.

Whilst posting this review, the car is in for repairs again. The fuel pump seems to be giving issues again.

2004 Renault Megane 2.0 Cabriolet 2.0

Summary:

Very expensive for its quality and service from both manufacturer and dealer

Faults:

The car go like the clutch is burnt. the car is a year old, but it has had cluch problems twice. they say its driver negligence, but they can't find a fault with it.

General Comments:

This car is very slow from start when you turn on a bumpy road it just jumps around.

Renault does not provide a shuttle service, so if you want to take it for service you better know the taxi routes.

2001 Renault Megane Priviledge petrol

Summary:

Real Renault rubbish

Faults:

Automatic fluid leak repaired by dealer, but started leaking again the next day.

Windscreen wipers stall in mid-sweep, very distracting especially in bad weather and heavy traffic. Problem still not fixed after 5 requests to service agents.

Window creaks when raising or lowering (electric window lifters). Also, still not fixed.

Rattles and creaks from back seat rest. According to the agent I need new cushions. This is the most ridiculous thing I have heard from a dealer.

Rattles from dashboard also not fixed.

Clattering noise through steering wheel over rough surfaces. This is very worrying. Dealer says this was the bonnet catch, but still the problem remains unsolved.

General Comments:

The most painful things about owning this Renault is the massive depreciation and very high servicing costs (if one can call it servicing since very little has been fixed).

Each time I drive it a new rattle or creak starts. I'm paranoid about what will go wrong next.

You're not alone in your misery owning a Renault.

Renault; great looking cars, but the dealers are shockingly over priced with bad attitudes.

The poor quality of the parts and components used to build Renaults - is in reflection why they are plagued with faults.

Will i but another Renault - 'NO CHANCE' i want an easy life, not sat waiting around renault service reception's while they fix the dam thing !

I wonder if a customer has tried and succeeded in charging a sloppy service agent for lost work hours?

I'm curious about this because it's becoming an issue. I am taking my Megane to the garage again tomorrow for the third time this year - it's only 4 Feb today. A visit to the garage cuts about 2 hours out of my day.

Renault South Africa have not been very forthcoming to the public regarding their Airbag saga.

I brought a Megane Coupe a 2001. It is the worst car I have ever bought. It drove like an old Escort with loads of rattles, flat spots, you name it. Stay well clear of these cars as they are rubbish, but they do look nice.
