1988 Renault 5 GTL 3door 1.4 petrol

Summary:

Not bad for a car of it's age..

Faults:

Original engine of the car blew burnt because water leakage. Replaced with one with 90000 km. Clutch disk blew and replaced. A little rust around front windshield.

General Comments:

Not a bad car for it's age. Performance is a bit low for me considering it's 60HP. It accelerates fairly quick up to 150 km/h, but it's very hard to get the car past this speed. 155/70 R13 tires are too thin for my taste. About 7 liters/100 km if you aren't a boy racer, but if you get it to the floor expect over 10 liters/100. Noisy at high speeds, but comfortable. Interior quality is OK.

Considering the engine only has 60 hp, I wouldn't say it has poor performance if it reaches and exceeds 150 km/h.

For a 1.4L engine from the 80s, 7 liters per 100 km isn't bad at all. Back then, gasoline cars were notoriously thirsty.

I always thought the R5 was a better car than the Clio or the Twingo, but that's just my personal opinion. If it was produced for so many years, it's because it was an economical car with few problems.
