1997 Mazda Xedos 9

Faults:

Two days ago it happened that at precisely 100,000.00 km (62,000.00 miles) ceramic part of sparking-plug spontaneously broke and entered in Cylinder causing it to stop functioning. According to the mechanist, to repair this problem it would cost around US$ 9,000.00.

The mechanist also mentioned that instead of repairing it would be cheaper to replace engine with the used one.

Please inform me how come it is possible that such problem has happened to MAZDA MILLER CYCLE ENGINE (Xedos 9) that has passed only 62,000.00 miles was maintained regularly and became Wards BEST ENGINE for 1997. Does anyone suggest anything?

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I Have a Mazda Xedos 9 with a Miller Cycle engine and at 160,000KM it started to miss fire and idle like a tractor. I replaced the spark plugs which took 8 hours - no change.I checked all 6 coil units which were also fine The problem showed up when I carried out a compression test. The rear center cylinder had only 5 bar when the others had 15bars. So now the cost for a garage to look at this problem is around 3,000 euros and the fix on top of this means the car is finished and only 6 years old with full Mazda history and service. I am attempting to do the job myself, but I cannot get any info, i.e. valve timing, cylinder head timing etc, Hi tech engines are great when they work, but once they fail the costs are huge.
