1985 Audi 80 CC 1.6 turbo diesel

Summary:

They don't make them the way they used to

Faults:

I had a little squeak with the power steering belt when I bought it, but I have changed it; think it was 5 dollars for the belt, and changed it myself. No other problems with anything else since then.

General Comments:

The car is a bit noisy because it's a diesel, but who cares, my car is a turbo diesel, and the turbo kicks in at 2500 revs and starts to pull :)

My car is the CC model and has all the gadgets: power steering, 4 electric windows, manual tilt and slide sunroof, and 4 headrests. The car is 30 years old, and all the windows work, and work quite fast for a 30 year old car; the sunroof works a treat :).

All round I like the car a lot. It's a very spacious car, holds the road well, and everything's good.

I like it when my car exhaust smokes, so I have adjusted the pump to get some black smoke; a DIY job.

Anyone thinking of buying shouldn't even think about it. I have used a 1984 Audi 1.6 non turbo diesel, so the turbo one is a better choice. I get 6-7 litres per 100km city, and 5-6 litres highway. I also have a 2005 Opel Corsa, but the Audi 80 is better to tell the truth; they don't make cars the way they used to.

They are very durable cars, I had one that lasted 25 years!

1984 Audi 80 B2 GLD 1.6 non-turbo diesel

Summary:

A good, cheap road companion

Faults:

I had to change the front left wheel bearing after I bought the car. I have changed the alternator and water pump as well, because of a little squeak, and have changed the oil every 10.000km. No other problems whatsoever.

General Comments:

A very solid car, the engine is a bit noisy, but who cares. 4-5 litres per km consumption (diesel); the engine might not have too much power, but always starts no matter how cold the weather is and gets you where you wanna go, no matter how bad the weather (rain, snow, whatever). A quiet stable car on the road. The car can drive at 120-140km per hour all day long on the autobahn. Superb heater, and gets hot in 2-3 minutes, even in very cold weather.

It's a good friend waiting outside for you to start the engine, and get you to wherever you wanna go, whenever you wanna go.

My previous car was a Mercedes 190D; this is not as quiet and comfortable as a Merc, but it's an excellent, cheaper to buy, and cheaper to run alternative.
