1991 Audi 100 E 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Very nice

Faults:

Lots, but it is older now with very high mileage. The engine and transmission have been solid and always cared for. The major mechanicals have been replaced (exhaust, suspension, brake, etc) and there is no major rust but the paintwork is really faded. Kept as a second car. Never broke down on me but had some annoying electrical issues.

General Comments:

Classic Audi 100 executive saloon - love this car and had it a long time. Used to be my daily driver, but now kept as a second car / classic.

Very comfortable and smooth for its age. Great to look at, timeless styling. Still good to drive.

2.0 engine performs well while doing around 30 mpg. Have to use super unleaded - expensive, but it did not like the new "E10" fuel when I tried it!

Audi from this time period have a following for a reason - they are good to drive and solid cars if cared for.

1991 Audi 100 E 2.0

Summary:

Excellent value for money

Faults:

Cracked rear nearside rear lens

Fuse blew for instrument panel.

General Comments:

This car probably drives like it did when it first came off the production line, it's smooth and quiet.

This car still has that luxurious feel, the interior is clean and tidy, the seats are comfortable.

On the motorway it's quieter than cruising around town, which is very surprising.

Best £200 car that money can buy.

1991 Audi 100 E 2.3 5 Cylinder

Summary:

Much better than a BMW or Merc

Faults:

Failed to start one day, still unable to sort.

Handle broke off glove box.

Damp in front foot-wells.

General Comments:

Effortless drive, not fast, but happy at 1000 revs in 5th gear.

Nice feel to the steering, if a bit light.

Generally very impressed except that last week it refused to start, I'm getting no sparks so I replaced the ignition module and distributor cap, but still nothing. ECU recording no faults. Dealer costs very expensive.

Very solid feel and still feels solid once you've pulled the trim out and put it back together, not something I could say about my Honda, for example.

Poor reliability? BMW, Mercedes, and very close in reliability nowadays, which isn't to say "awesome," but that is the price that you pay when you buy a German car. Consumer Reports doesn't lie... in initial quality, Audi is in fact quite a bit above the industry average.

Audi is usually one of the top in JD Power ratings, and always has a Consumer Reports pick.

Mercedes, on the other hand, is usually one of the makes in last.

I'd much rather drive an Audi than a Merc or a BMW.
