2001 Audi A4 SE 2.0

Summary:

A used gem!

Faults:

A coil pack @ £20 and a thermostat at £50 (including sensor) Nothing other than that, had the belts replaced which is a stupidly big job, the whole front of the car must come off to allow this be done, take 6 hours or so, would be costly if using main stealers!

Can't knock the quality, buy a french car and then try compare, you'll complain no more to audi that's for sure!

General Comments:

The car is not especially quick, I miss the turbo, although it does have a very good third gear for passing, great sound! Car is very quite at tickover and driving with manners will give 500 miles to the tank, pushing on as I would on the country roads, knock a hundred off that at the very most.

The car is very comfortable, I have the se spec, more than enough toys. I got the car at handy money as will you if your not a miser looking for the diesel, which I may add is a false economy, they don't give that much extra miles to the tank and are a min of £2000 more to buy with twice the miles already on them, £2000 buys an awful lot of petrol which is cheaper than diesel!

I'm keen on my cars and normally within two months id be looking to change again, but I must say I'm happy with the car, and that speaks volumes really.. I would try the 1.8t next possibly just for the turbo!

2001 Audi A4 Avant SE 2.0 20v petrol

Summary:

Love the quality and the image

Faults:

Gearbox mounting worn, needed replacing at 100K. Front centre armrest plastic clip (holds armrest cover closed when armrest is raised) broke, as did armrest hinge. Some clonking from OSF suspension, though it has done 130K so this is just wear.

General Comments:

Excellent quality and equipment, I bought the car in Jan 06 with 98,000 miles and it now has 130,000 on the clock (end Oct 06). Very quiet, does low to mid 30s per gallon. Engine is a bit sluggish, but not too bad. Handling a bit wallowy on std 16" alloys, but upgrade to 18" rims has sharpened up the steering no end. Seats are immensely comfortable, esp. with optional heated seats.

2001 Audi A4 Sport + CVT Box 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Great build, great engineering

Faults:

Electrics - headlights & rear lights failed: fixed under warranty

Windscreen wiper arm broken.

General Comments:

My overall opinion is that this car has been a fantastic purchase and I have been very happy with it.

The CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) gearbox is just fantastic. The whole car drives so smoothly. When you take off from the lights just set the revs (e.g. 3000) and the car accelerates staying at 3000 revs the whole time - the gearbox changes not the engine. Your ride is smoother as there is no jerk as the engine is disengaged from a gear and a new one selected. Brilliant.

The interior is very comfortable, the climate control works and is quiet and it is very easy and comfortable to drive over long distances.

Services are more expensive, but not cripplingly so and the car is picked up and delivered back polished inside and out. A free courtesy car is available (if you book a little bit earlier). the car tells you when it needs to be serviced - more often in you drive the car hard, but less often if you are gentle with the engine.

I can recommend this car to anyone.

2001 Audi A4 avant quattro sport 2.5 tdi

Summary:

Not cheap, but great fun and so sure footed

Faults:

Fuel tank pump went at 9000 miles, replaced after the part finally arrived from Germany.

At 76,000 miles the clutch fly wheel was found to be unbalanced and was replaced (outside warranty) and the clutch also has to be replaced as a result.

General Comments:

What a car, great to dive, averaged 38 miles per gallon over the full 106,000 miles despite the 'fun' driving style adopted.

Not only the above, but only 4 services (avg every 26k miles) is great.

Car holds the road and I give up before it does, quick and speedy in all conditions, Only one full set of tires in that period is great and a tribute to the 4 wheel drive system.

Only problem is the lack of rear space, but hey, with all this fun, whats a little cramped feeling.
