2012 Audi A5 S Line 3.0 TDi

Summary:

Early days, but I like it!

Faults:

Nothing yet. A word of advice however - buying used, do not touch these cars unless they have full history. Mine has every receipt and stamp and I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. Things get very expensive with rough examples. Also be aware of any crash damage and remember to check for this.

General Comments:

The A5 in silver is a stunning coupe from Audi that is fast AND economical (45 - 50 mpg!).

The car looks stunning with 5 spoke alloy wheels and inside the black nappa leather is very comfortable. The car responds like nothing else when you floor the accelerator.

Basically it is everything a sports coupe should be. Only had it six months, will try to remember and update this review with comments when I have put more serious mileage on it and give any reliability/long term problems and reports, but so far very impressed with a car that is 10 years old and is this good.

Quick update by the original author - been using the car more than I thought lately and put nearly 1500 miles on it this past month or so; the car has been very reliable, no major problems.

Friend at work has one of these cars also and had it a couple of years, so is in a better position to comment on reliability and he will have a review up soon.

Meanwhile I am still very impressed with my A5. The coupe is the one to have, stands out over the saloon/sportback version.

2009 Audi A5 SE 3.0 TDI quattro turbo diesel

Summary:

Great fuel economy, comfort and performance, but flawed at a manufacturer/dealership level

Faults:

The water pump broke after 11 months ownership, requiring roadside recovery.

General Comments:

Incredibly smooth drive for a diesel engine.

Fuel economy is excellent - will go above 50mpg on a motorway cruise - for a 3 litre engine, this seems amazing.

Performance is sound - it does not feel quick, but the acceleration is good, and the car will easily take you effortlessly to high speed.

Very comfortable. Cabin quality is high - seats, entertainment system etc. Fog lights buttons and indicators for me are obscured by the steering wheel.

This really is a two seater; the rear seats have very little leg room. The seats are seemingly comfortable.

Purchase experience was appalling. Delivery originally indicated as being October 2009. Finally delivery was 24 December 2009, with the dealer not knowing until a few days before that the car was coming.

Single breakdown experience was not welcome. Incredible delay for Audi to obtain the replacement part, again with the dealer seemingly in the dark as to what was happening.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

They are great cars, surprised you had problems at the dealership when pretty much brand new, usually they are excellent when under warranty.

Myself I have bought one at ten years old and have an Audi specialist nearby which has told me parts are pretty much guaranteed supply and cheaper, which is good as I wouldn't take an A5 of this age now to a main dealer.
