1990 Citroen BX GTi 16v 1.9 16v

Summary:

A high performance sports car with room for the family and their luggage

Faults:

Clutch went after a week.

Window switch had to be replaced.

Had to change the ECU.

Other than the normal things: tyres etc, everything has been fine.

General Comments:

A very nice car. Fast as a fast thing, but I find you have to keep the revs up. Brakes that would put you through the windscreen. Sticks to the road like glue. Leaves a lot BMW drivers looking gob-smacked. Overall one of the best cars I've driven with amazing power, I would advise anyone with a budget looking for a sports car which can carry 5 people in the upmost of comfort to buy one.

Blockhead making previous comment obviously ain't driven one...136mph isn't for senile over 80 matey.

To the above poster.

Standard 150,000 mile cars will still do 135mph and accelerate 0-60 in 7.2 sec; that's faster than a BMW 328. Mine with a few mods will do 7000 RPM in 5th on the flat. That is 140mph true speed; any more and I hit the rev limiter.

Thanks, but no thanks, to dangerous driving these things above 60 MPH.

I have owned 5 BX GTi 8v's in recent years, with no major problems with any of them, I now own a 16v, which has just recorded 0-60 in 7.6s & a standing 1/4 in 15.7s! The claim of 120mph top speed is less than I've had in my 8v's. The 16v's speedo goes up to 140mph, & I have had it off the top without even hitting the limiter.

None of the BX's have ever been prone to rust, and you'd be hard pressed to find one with any welding done. The "plastic" panels were to reduce weight, and the BX is still one of the most aerodynamic car around.

So, as mentioned before, you shouldn't quote on a car you know nothing about. No doubt you drive a Fiesta, and are just jealous of "real" cars.

1990 Citroen BX 16v 1.9 16v inj.

Faults:

Water pump.

Cooling fan terminals corroded, causing overheating and burst radiator.

Small hose at back of head chewed by cam pulley.

Starter switch, intermittent fault.

General Comments:

Very, very fast. Costs are reasonable for a car that can out accelerate most cars on the road. More than compensated by low purchase cost.

Mk2 models are badged as BX16v.

Losing 'GTI' tag drops one or two insurance groups.

1990 Citroen BX 14 1.4 petrol

Faults:

In 135,000 miles: new clutch, broken gear box linkage, and absolutely nothing else.

General Comments:

Probably the best car I've known. Although getting a little dated lookswise, I've spent so little apart from servicing every 12,000 miles and changing oil every 6,000 I can't get rid of it just because I'm frightened of what I might get in its place.

1990 Citroen BX TZi 1.9i petrol

Faults:

Bought the car when it had 100,000 Km on it's clock. I have driven it for 16,000 Km now.

So far I had the fuel injector replaced (at 106,000 Km).This was under dealer warranty.

General Comments:

This is a very comfortable and luxury car. Also it is a fast car (110 hp, 1000 Kg)!! The maximum speed of it is approx 195 Km/h. I drove this while the fuel injector was already defective, so maybe it'll be over 200 now it has been replaced.
