2006 Citroen C4 Hdi VTR + 1.6

Summary:

Reliable, classy lady who tends to drink too much

Faults:

Overall the car has performed adequately however having taken the plunge and purchased this vehicle brand new, I cannot help be a little disappointed with the diesel consumption.

General Comments:

I enjoy the extra toys such as cruise control which can be adjusted `in flight' either higher or lower.

The sound system is nothing special and strangely the CD does not have a repeat function.

The ride is quite bumpy and I cannot help thinking that a manufacturer who was once famous for the quality of it's unique suspension system has let itself down.

The `N' reg ZX I previously owned was also a diesel with a 1.9 engine whose noise was often compared to a French taxi, but it regularly provided a return in excess of 50mpg. I just cannot understand why a car with 21st century technology including the latest electronic ignition and a complex fuel readout akin to NASA, should at best give an overall figure of 43mph. I have checked the electronic calculations with an old fashioned calculator and Litres to Gallons conversion chart. My driving pattern has not changed for at least four years so my expectation of at least 55 to 65 mpg has been dashed. The dealer checked the diagnostics and that has failed to reveal any faults.

The Artic Silver finish gives it a classy appeal and the automatic headlights, windscreen wipers, cruise control make it an easy car to drive especially with the driver's arm rest. Overall it's a car that appears to be reliable, comfortable, easy to drive, but after six months ownership I feel a little short changed at the pump.

Not sure what size of engine you have. My 1.6 HDI (110) is 56.4mpg with the air con on and 54.6mpg when the air con is off. I find this to be very economical. It also depends on what type of roads you primarily use. I'm pretty much on country roads most of the time and admittedly drive rather fast. You should find that your fuel consumption will get better once you've run the car in for a couple of thousand miles. I also do not find the car bumpy at all, but pretty smooth. Definitely agree with the looks of the C4, they definitely stand out.

Tell Citroen your experiencing a harsh ride. It's a known issue sometimes the bushes on some of the cars go and sometimes there are issues with the dampers.

Worth asking anyway. As has been said it took 10,000 miles for mine to start returning half decent MPG mine was a petrol 1.6 and at first I was getting a whopping 25mpg it will now do 30+ without a problem and have had it over 40 on a long trip.

2006 Citroen C4 VTR+ 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Not as impressed after one month as I had expected to have been

Faults:

Noisy front wipers- at the 1000 mile post delivery service the local Citroen dealer put some grease on the wipers, but the noise continued- with wipers not clearing the water properly. Took it back today, and was charged for a new wiper (as I was told it was wear and tear and not covered under the warranty). The car is just a month old!

Fuel consumption not as good as previous same sized engine Renault Megane - about 38pmg, whereas the Megane did 45mpg on exactly the same weekly journeys.

Car seems to 'creep' at about 12-15mph when foot is off the accelerator- and I have to use the brakes to slow down - have yet to see how far it would move along a flat road before it stopped without resorting to the brakes!

General Comments:

The 'economy mode' is a little bizarre- all the electrics- including radio and electric windows turn off when the ignition has been turned off for several minutes. However if you are stuck in a stationary traffic jam, the ignition has to be continually turned on to get traffic reports!

I'm confused as to what you have. Is it petrol or diesel. I have 1.6 hdi (110) and get 58.6, it's country roads and I aint the slowest of drivers!!!

Fuel consumption will improve when engine and running gear has been run in. If it's a diesel it doesn't reach peak performance and economy until 5000 km.

It will creep that's the torque at idle revs pulling the car along most cars you will find do this.

My old cars did this as well including a Fiat Brava.

Its completely normal. Just if you can move off without using the accelerator then it makes sense that the car can continue to move once the accelerator is all the way up.
