1999 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6i petrol

Summary:

You beauty!!!!

Faults:

Car was broken into, door locks very easy to get past.

Central locking keeps jamming.

General Comments:

Very quick little car, good on juice, but extremely heavy on front tyres (and they ain't cheap).

Pedals are a little too close together, but they are not extremely uncomfortable.

Front brakes make an awful grinding noise when braking heavily (not noticeable with the stereo turned up to the max).

Above all, a very good little car, with only a few faults.

1999 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6i petrol

Summary:

Great looks and oomph with the cost

Faults:

Alarm (optional extra) kept going off for no reason.

Exhaust back box rotted in 1 year.

Airbag light kept coming on.

General Comments:

This car looks good, performs and handles beautifully and returns 41mpg.

During the summer and winter, it survived a heavy frontal smash, collapsing in all the right places and looking after my unfortunate wife!

I am 6'5" tall with size 12 feet but I fit the car (just) and I love it to death. Pound for pound this car takes some beating.

1999 Citroen Saxo East Coast 1.1

Summary:

Cheap alternative to the Fiesta/Corsa

Faults:

Horn not working.

Exhaust fell off after 2000 miles.

General Comments:

Not bad little cars, wouldn't touch one again with a barge pole. I road tested a Saxo VTS for my wife recently and still wasn't impressed - these cars are slow and not of very high build quality unlike my volvo V70 T5. But you get what you get what you pay for. So keep at Citroen, like the design but the car is crap.

1999 Citroen Saxo West Coast 1.4i

Faults:

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong yet! (touch wood)

General Comments:

I'm absolutely amazed by the West Coast!! It's a lot quicker than I expected, the book says 0-60 in 11.2 secs, but I've timed under 10 easy!! In 3rd on 4000-5500 revs it's seriously quick!! I've kept up with a VTR in it easy just by driving it right!!! So there you go!!

My advice is forget the VTR and get one of these or the new Furio!! You'll save insurance, petrol and the actual cost of buying it!! And it looks almost identical!!!! Oh and top end it does 110mph easy!!

Maybe people may like a car without crappy brakes, shocks and seats!! The new Furio is far better I know but still is crap next to the VTR/VTS.

I've an s reg west coast and overall it is a wonderful car. I've covered 45000 miles in it with only minor problems. It handles like a dream and it can keep up with a VTR except on the long straights, and it isn't far behind then. It looks better than the VTR when sat on 15's and it has the bonus of cheaper insurance. The brakes are spongy and like all Saxo's it is heavy on front tyres, but overall I am completely satisfied. And you can leave behind most cars when it comes to the corners!

I am glad to hear that there are good reviews about the WestCoast. I am buying one this weekend (2nd hand; S-reg) and I think it looks nice.

I did want the Fiesta ZetecS but they're too pricey, they don't have many extras inside, and the insurance is more costly.

"It looks better than the VTR when sat on 15's"

What a joke how can it look better their practically identical.

O and you would'nt be able to keep up with a vtr did the driver know you were racing him!

'O and you would'nt be able to keep up with a vtr did the driver know you were racing him!'

That's precisely the problem with most peoples claims of beating other cars. Most of the time, the car they 'beat' was not racing.

After owning both cars mentioned here.. I can say the VTR is quicker in all ways.

Of course the VTR is quicker. If they were just as fast as each other, what would be the point in making both?
