If you have the estate, keep an eye on the front door hinges; the welds break away. Citroen do not want to know.

1995 Citroen Xantia VSX 1.9 turbo diesel

Summary:

A very practical yet sporty car

Faults:

Manufacturer recomends one click of the suspension every 12 seconds, it was around every 7. It was a faulty pump.

General Comments:

Excellent car all in all. Very similar to the Citroen BX, but built a lot better. The 1.9 TD engine delivered a lot of power for towing my caravan and the fuel efficiency when towing is much better than a petrol would be.

The average time between clicks on a good car is at least 50 seconds.

1995 Citroen Xantia VSX 1.9 turbo diesel

Faults:

After the last service the rear ride height corrector rod was dislodged, which meant a return visit the next day - irritating. Then the same thing happened a month later. Get the feeling it was more the garage than the car. One of the horns stopped working. That's it.

General Comments:

The Hydractive suspension is superb, and offers noticeably better cornering with its ability to 'firm up', than the regular suspension. Bigger tyres also help!

Comfortable, relaxed driving and a wonderful engine, which has even managed 55mpg on a tank when I am not in a hurry - can't complain at that.

1995 Citroen Xantia Base 1.9 diesel

Faults:

Engine seized at 58,000 miles. Fortunately repaired under warranty.

Eats front tyres.

Suspension spheres went at 20,000 miles.

Lots of front brake pads.

General Comments:

Nice car, 45 mpg without any problem, but let down by persistent faults, and high cost of repairs.

Also, if you get seasick, suspension might not be to your liking.

Pity about the faults, as it's quite a nice car.

1995 Citroen Xantia TD SX 1.9 turbo diesel

Faults:

Oil loss from suspension due to leak. Heated seats stopped working! Both fixed by dealer quickly but they failed to order the right parts twice. Rear mudguard fell off - just like it did on the BX I used to own!

General Comments:

Incredibly comfortable. We have twice done 800 mile journeys in the car with minimum fatigue. Very spacious and does especially well on motorways. Worth buying the up-spec SX for extra comfort.

1995 Citroen Xantia X 1.9 diesel

Faults:

None, it has run 180,000 kilometers, I bought it at 150,000 Km, a year ago.

General Comments:

It's a good reliable strong working car, which never fails. The only trouble with the standard diesel is the slow acceleration. The turbo diesel is better on that.

1995 Citroen Xantia SX 1.9 turbo diesel

Faults:

Electric roof motor failed when open, stereo refused to pick up anything other than Radio 4 and traffic reports from 3 counties away.

Remote locking failed after 10 months.

General Comments:

Good, quality car. Excellent PSA diesel engine, superb ride, good equipment levels, nice unusual styling.

Good dealers, although I don't like their policy of only giving you a Citroen AX when your car is in for a service. Doesn't look good when turning up for meetings.
