2000 Citroen Xsara SX 2.0 Hdi

Summary:

Excellent value, reliable and decent looking

Faults:

The only thing that has bugged me a little was the airbag warning light. I sorted this out by spraying some WD40 on the contacts... problem solved!

General Comments:

I like the fact that for less than £3000 I got a really modern. quiet and economic diesel engine car with lots of safety features, aircon and a nice stereo that can be controlled from the steering wheel. No other car came anywhere near it for price or the low mileage.

The engine is smooth and reliable. It only needs servicing every 12,500 miles and is economical.

Hello

I have the same problem with my Xsara (airbag warning light coming on intermittently!

I notice that you have stated that you sprayed the contacts with WD40 but where exactly abouts do you mean?

Please help its becoming bl***dy anoying!

Paul.

2000 Citroen Xsara Forte 1.6i

Summary:

Comfortable, cheap to run family transport

Faults:

Small interior trim fault - the far left vent control has been pushed into the dash making it hard to adjust.

General Comments:

Ride comfort is very good, the car smooths out surface imperfections very well.

The interior quality is OK, but over poor surfaces there are often irritating rattles coming from the back of the cabin.

The car came very well equipped with four air bags and climate control. However alloy wheels and a CD player were missing.

The engine has a modest 90bhp, but feels quick enough and is willing to rev smoothly.

Engine noise can be heard over 90mph on smooth surfaces, but does not feel strained even over 100mph.

Fuel economy is fair for the performance, but more modern engines in rivals do tend to do better on this front.

Rear seat space is OK, even behind the driver (6ft 5") on short journeys, but three adults for any long period of time would get uncomfortable.

There is ample space in the boot for a weeks shopping and the rear seats fold flat, but with no split in the bench or backrest, the backrest however can be locked to add more security to the boot.

Overall I am very happy with this car, it is not a car that I had considered before driving it, but I am glad that I did. I bought it from an independent dealer at a very reasonable price - the pay off for very high initial depreciation!

2000 Citroen Xsara VTS 2.0 16v (167BHP)

Summary:

Very good

Faults:

Fuel gauge has an intermittent fault.

Rear torsion bar seized. (freed up eventually)

General Comments:

This car is very much a wolf in sheeps clothing, will happily see off most GTi's and so-called "hot hatches".

Handling is superb, inspires confidence.

Interior is very comfortable, well laid-out controls and instruments.

Not much room in back, but then I don't sit in there!! and it is classed as a coupe.

2000 Citroen Xsara LX 1.4i

Summary:

Great car, but..

Faults:

I have had the car for 6 months now, and is has been perfect, and all off a sudden the air bag light has been coming on intermittently, and engine cuts off whilst slowing down, petrol gage not right since I bought it, but I figured out the reading's, IE when starting the car make sure it level, like in UK, there roads have a camber in the road which slightly tilts the car, and depending on the tilt it can show either a low or high reading, but on a flat it shows an accurate reading, plus when filling the pump keeps cutting out, gonna give my warranty company a ring tomorrow and get it in for them to check it out.

General Comments:

Overall before I started to have problems with the car, I was very pleased with it, the car is very nice and comfortable, has a great driving position, handles well, and very nippy.

Citreon Xsara - year 2002. Drives & handles really well and no problems (apart from the airbag light, but eventually that was fixed) until the car was 2 years old. THEN the problems started, all electrical. Car wouldn't start no power at all. In the past six months I have had two new batteries a new fuel pump, the air flow meter checked & numerous tows to the garage. The garage could not find anything wrong, but have admitted there is an electrical fault somewhere. All I can say is thank goodness for the 3 year warranty.

I had the problem with the central locking turning off and on. It was just a couple of broken wires on the flexi rubber near the driver's door hinge. Easy to fix.
