1985 Daihatsu Domino 5 door HatchBack 846cc

Summary:

My first love!

Faults:

Points fused at one point meaning it misfired badly - fine now though.

General Comments:

This is my first car - MY car, the car I learnt to drive in and the car I took my test in.

Obtained through my brother from his work (in the trade) when it came in as a part exchange, my little flying flea has (apart from in our early relationship when she stopped outside Tooting tube and refused to go any further - after this I nicknamed her Zaza after Ms Gabbor - small, firey and occasionally a bit of a cow) never let me down.

For it's size and age its a really good little runner and accelerates quickly and evenly. Yes we did have a misfire problem back in the early days, but this has been sorted, and with the exception of some rust prevention, has cost me very little to maintain and keep on the road

Economical (£18 for a tyre - if you don't mind the "Oh Kev!, have we still got that shopping trolley out back!" comments from the gararge) and about the same for a full tank, I love my little car and will drive her until she parks her last!

1986 Daihatsu Domino 850cc

Summary:

My little metal box car

General Comments:

Was given the car by my dad when I turned 17 to learn to drive in. we change the engine with another domino of the same year which we found which had been refurbished. we then resprayed it in a black and blue with silver interior detailing. even though I said the cars done 150,000 it might have done more as it has been round the clock at least twice now and still runs brilliantly. I not sure how she would last for long distances, but hopefully I wil never have to do it my car which loves the 30 miles a day I do commuting to work. my mates nicknamed it fido dido after a 2ft I air brushed on the bonnet got a few weeks which I soon got bored of.

1985 Daihatsu Domino 4 door saloon 3 cylinder

Summary:

A very economical car with lots of interior space

Faults:

Everything on the car is the original and the only items that have been replaced are the exhaust and tyres.

I have been advised that the clutch will need replacing soon.

General Comments:

The car has been in the family since new and was given to my son after his Grandfather died. He in turn gave it to me so I could use in the course of my business.

The car gives exceptional miles per gallon and can reach speeds of 85 mph.

Later this year I intend to drive the car to Spain where I shall use it throughout the next 12 months before returning to have it m.o.t.'d.

If it was not an exceptional car I would not consider driving it that far, but I am confident it will get there and back!!!

1983 Daihatsu Domino 0.6

Summary:

Bargain car, that is reliable!

Faults:

The carburetor needed re jetting at 40,000 miles due to excessive wear. This was quite cheap to repair, however the carburetor is quite small and complicated and it took 2 weeks for my fuel systems agent to obtain the parts.

The heater fan motor gave up at 52,000 - during the winter, it didn't take long to realise that a new one wasn't available, nor was a salvage one, so I rebuilt the one I had - very fiddly!

General Comments:

Not that much has gone wrong with the car really, I service it myself as it is easy to work on and the parts are quite cheap. The car only has two cylinders, so one pack of spark plugs lasts twice as long! The oil filter is very small though and must be changed regularly as it can get clogged up.

To say the car only has 33Bhp, it goes well and I regularly take it on motorway journeys where it never misses a beat.

The handling is good too!

Generally it's a pretty good car.
