2000 Ford Fiesta Zetec-S 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Forget that it's a Fiesta

Faults:

Knocking noises from the suspension.

Odometer blanks out for 2 seconds occasionally.

Front fog lights letting in water.

General Comments:

Fantastic handling warm hatch, easily defeats a VTR, throttle response is amazing, loads of power < 4000 for a 16v.

Odd how all the comments on this site appear to indicate the same set of problems with the Zetec-S.

MPG surprisingly good, 38 on the motorway if you drive sensibly, 1.0 Saxo only used to do 42 at the same speed.

No-one'll believe me that it's that good, all they see is the Fiesta name.

The same knocking noises from the back suspension. what is the reason?

24th Oct 2001, 05:00

Could well be the anti-roll bar bushes.

Yes this is the suspension bushes as I had this problem and got it sorted by ford!

2000 Ford Fiesta Zetec-S 1.6 16v petrol

Summary:

Zetec-S, go get it sideways

Faults:

Knocking noise from the suspension.

Passenger window would not wind up.

General Comments:

The anti-roll bar bushes had gone...

The car really flies if you push it hard but it drinks petrol on the motorway.

Good for tail happy fun in the wet! Even if the traction control is crap.

Anyone ever going make a big-bore exhaust?

Oh yeah, there is a turbo conversion...

Magnex now do an exhaust, at a tidy sum of pound notes, and yes the suspension does knock, WHY?

Only a few mod bits on the market so far, so we will have to give it 6 months or so before we get them.

Bit of a bumma really, but s@#t happens.

But what a car, I can't stop hand braking it and getting it sideways, o wot joy!

The knocking is the front anti-roll bar bushes. Get them replaced under warranty, it only takes a couple of hours.

2000 Ford Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Great value, great fun

Faults:

Knocking sound when initially driving off.

Whining sound from the power steering

Front fog lamp letting water in.

Odometer LCD blanks out every now and then.

General Comments:

A great looking, great handling, value for money car. I've owned a few Fiesta's and this is the best yet. Let down by a few annoying faults. Dealer care not the best in the world.

2000 Ford Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Nice

Faults:

Very annoying knocking sound coming from the passenger side.

Passenger side window will not close properly.

Nice big go-faster strip down yet again the passenger side, caused by some idiot with a key.

General Comments:

Its a fun little car that handles and responds well.

It could do with a few "oops", a lot more horses, and the dashboard could do with a few more gadgets.

Faults:

Nothing.

This car is a bargain at the price.

It is very quick for acceleration and top end.

I would certainly recommend this car.

Did you have much trouble fitting the 17's?

2000 Ford Fiesta Zetec-S 1.6 16v

Summary:

A great handling looker

Faults:

The passenger side window would not shut properly.

The engine is now ticking over somewhere between 2000 and 3000 revs, due to something breaking in the throttle. Still waiting for that to be fixed.

The odometer blanks out on a fairly regular basis.

General Comments:

The handling and braking are outstanding, and it looks great - especially the huge wheels.

I do think it could do with a bit more power. 0-60 in 10 seconds isn't very impressive, and there isn't much oomph after 70mph on the motorway, although it cruises extremely nicely.

Give it some welly lad - then you'll see what it can do. I feel you have to push it quite far to get the best out of it. Get that needle in the red zone!!!

Couldn't agree more! (to the above) although there isn't a red line. It gives optimum power at about 6800 rpm so push it all the way. It flies when it gets going. 3rd all the way up to 6800, superb mid-range pick up.

I've got a 2000 X Reg Zetec S and the Odometer keeps blanking out as well. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? I haven't managed to pin-point any regularity to it either.
