1977 Ford Granada mk1 Ghia 3.0 V6

Summary:

Grunty armchair

Faults:

Drivers door rusted out... it is 27 years old! oil pump drive came adrift resulting in loss of oil pressure, but caught it in time.

Gearbox is on the way out.

General Comments:

I love this car! I wanted a Mk1 granny after watching the sweeny as a kid. The 3.0 V6 essex is a torque monster, it will pull top gear from 15 mph, far superior to the later cologne engine.

As expected, it is also a pig on petrol! shows its age by lack of 5th gear, but still good for 110 if you push it. These old fords are ideal for the home mechanic, everything is easy on them.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

My dad had one of these when I was a kid. I remember it was a 3.0 GXL in pale blue (complete with vinyl roof!)

I remember it being really quick, sounding lovely and drinking so much fuel he had to sell it after 6 months. He reckoned he never got more than about 15 mpg out of it. Crippling, and fuel was cheap then as well.

Can't remember the last time I saw one on the road now. Great car though.
