1991 Ford Granada GL 2.0i petrol

Summary:

Good memories

Faults:

Lots, more than I can remember. But most was down to wear and tear and my neglect, I didn't take care of it as much as I should have. But generally these Granadas were as reliable as any car of the time period if serviced correctly.

General Comments:

I miss when you could get a huge luxurious car like this for very cheap!

The Granada was a fine barge of a car. Even my most basic GL model had all the comforts of the time I needed to make those long motorway journeys.

Very quiet and smooth. 2.0i petrol engine was relaxed rather than fast. It also returned over 30 mpg which was impressive for a car this size at the time. I enjoyed every journey.

For a Ford the car got admiring glances from those in the know. But to most people it just looked like a Sierra. Nothing wrong with that car, but the Granada was definitely a class above.

No Mercedes beater, but a fine executive attempt from Ford nonetheless. I'd love another, but a mint one would cost plenty nowadays, essentially a rare classic now. Back in 2006 I had to scrap my car - rust was becoming an issue, but it was 15 years old at the time and had plenty mileage on it, so I certainly got my monies worth.

1991 Ford Granada Ghia X 2.9 V6 (12V)

Summary:

Veteran V6 motocruiser with a fantastic engine

Faults:

Absolutely nothing yet.

General Comments:

What can you say: For £400 with 12 Months MOT, we got a Very Fast, Very Comfortable V6 MotoCruiser.

The Ghia X (about '91 onwards) is basically a Scorpio without the air con, electric seats or the option of leather. This one has:

Electric windows/mirrors

Heated seats

Full original stereo with six speakers

Cruise control

ABS

Central locking

And luckily ours had only two owners from new, one of them being a company hire car business. Anyway, so it does about 22MPG in the city, and 35MPG on the motorway. It's loud, powerful and comfortable, reliable so far and very good fun.

1991 Ford Granada Scorpio 2.0 DOHC

Summary:

A Large, comfortable, gadget filled hunk of a car

Faults:

My anti-lock brakes do not work and the previous owner used replacement brake pads without wear indicators.

General Comments:

This car is full of gadgets.

The car handles well for its size.

The seats are very comfortable and they are heated.

The car literally drives itself.

1991 Ford Granada Scorpio 2.9i V6

Summary:

Unbelievable bargain

Faults:

Auto gearbox oil seal leak.

Front suspension bushes breaking up.

General Comments:

A truly fantastic motorway cruiser with superb V6 power. The aircon in the 2.9 is much more capable than in the smaller engined cars and by 1991 Ford had got to grips with most (but not quite all) of the problems. Petrol is on the heavy side but the reliability and ridiculous cheapness of spares (compared to BMW, Merc. or Jag) helps the matter of running costs considerably.

If you want a cheap, mega milemuncher and you want 21st century luxury along with it, this is the car!

I have one of these and it is great, much as described above... and yes... my local Ford garage turns out to be expensive, incompetent and unscrupulous.

I recently had a G reg 2.9i V6 H/back model and it served me well for over 36,000 miles in less than a year! Same leaks to PAS and other fluids with the expected rear left w/arch rust but it was the fastest, safest and steadiest cruiser I had.. 5 star.

I have just bought the Granada 24v and taken down the motorway and come across a 530 BMW he looked across and smirked the floored it. Not for long though I went past him doing 155 miles an hour no other car for under a grand can do that to a new power car. The only problems found up to know are the anti roll bar bushes. They cost a staggering £2.50 from the local Halfords where four of their staff came out just to sea the engine need I say more.Peter.
