2012 Ford Transit TDCi 280 MWB 2.2 diesel

Summary:

The classic Transit van

Faults:

General wear + tear, suspension parts, tyres, brakes, oil and belt changes, etc.

Interior wise some plastics have cracks, but it was used well before I bought it. Rubber around door panels is also looking a bit worse for wear. Rear is wood lined so not many dents to deal with. Slight signs of early rust on hinges.

General Comments:

As a works vehicle this has stood up well over the last 8 years, but my plan is to convert it to something more comfortable, not a full motor home conversion, just something nicer to be in, for private use.

2.2 diesel is a very common engine, reliable enough if serviced on time, and you will get 40 MPG. Not fast by any means, but never struggles even when fully loaded.

Interior wise it is a typical Ford, cheap plastics everywhere, but is comfortable and has electric windows, and is much more refined than you might think, as someone who normally drives cars. Though I used a Fiat Scudo previously at work, the Transit is better, but only due to more space.

Transit is a very common sight on UK roads, usually white in colour works vans. I plan to keep this one a long time, maybe even paint it another colour; my father had a few Transits in the 1980s and 1990s that lasted a long time (well in excess of 100,000 miles), so I expect this to be no different if I take care of it.

What do the numbers T125, T280, etc., mean on the Ford Transit?

Gross vehicle weight (GVW) for example T280 = 2.8t, T350= 3.5t GVW. (Approx)
