Thanks for your review. I was considering buying a 99 T plate Type R, quite low mileage too. After I read your review I went and looked at it again. While studying the service history I noticed advisories from Honda mechanics on the receipts. These were problems engaging 5th gear and wheel bearing problems, also I noticed the owner was complaining of fuses blowing with great regularity. I'm steering clear of what is obviously a money pit.

Thanks again, you saved me money.

I agree 100%. Absolutely same experience and opinion. Wonderful, extraordinary car. To appreicte it, seconds are needed, to fall in love with, just one moment, to really understanding what quality combined with class and pleasure is, you have to own one. From Canada, with love.

Get a room! No seriously, I've just got one and it's great so far. Just getting used to such a big car. A pleasure to drive, and great value for the quality you get.

1999 Honda Accord Type R 2.2 DOHC VTEC

Summary:

A great priced, reliable, entertaining sports saloon

Faults:

Clutch sqeuak, a known issue with all accord type R models, but easy to live with.

Knocking from the engine, caused by not using RON98, or preferred Shell Optimax.

General Comments:

The car is reliable, will probably last longer than you!

It is fast, fun and overall it is a practical car with all the plus points of a 4 door saloon and none of the bad points of a sports car.

Service costs are only slightly higher than that of a normal accord, plus the dealers are great, and always willing to go the extra mile (I have been to 4 separate garages across the UK)

Even had a stint with Honda Head Office, they were great. Excellent professionalism and great customer service.

1999 Honda Accord 1.8se 1.8 petrol

Summary:

Class performance at a more modest cost

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this car.

General Comments:

The Accord is a comfortable drive although it isn't particularly fast. The automatic gearbox is a dream. We obtained it because it was big enough to get two bikes in the back.

The car is very refined and competent, coming into its own on fast roads such as French autoroutes where it's possible to set the cruise control to 85 and just sit back.

Two things I don't like: (a) it doesn't come with a CD player, (b) the seat colour is pretty awful (beige).

Fuel economy generally poor (around 32 miles/gallon normally), although we achieved around 40 on the French motorways.
