1996 Honda Civic VTi 1.6

Summary:

Seriously quick, super reliable, expensive insurance

Faults:

Honda stereo broke. It had broken for the previous owner as well, I understand this is common.

No other problems so far.

General Comments:

Understated looks, but very comfy and well built.

Vtec engine still amazes me, it is a normal car until the etec range is hit, then it is like a turbo! A wolf in sheep's clothing.

Such good fun taking out Corrados, Calibras, and Golf GTIs! They don't know what's just gone past them like a rocket! Cruises sweetly.

Hard to get good fuel economy as the temptation to put the foot down is so great!

214 BHP from a Starlet Turbo?

They are only 108 to 130 as standard depending on the year! What have you done to it to make it as powerful as a Subaru Impreza or a Focus RS?

Add a turbo to the stock 127 hp on the ex, and you can easily push close to 200. With a few economical upgrades ie...intake, exhaust, and manifold you can put out 250 hp plus. My 96 civic EX with the original D16Y8 VTEC-II puts out over 240 hp with less than $1000.00 invested...hmmm.

Comparing a starlet turbo to a civic is like comparing diamonds to bricks. The starlet is nice in a breeze block, cheating chunk of turbo power, kind of way, but the civic is a finely tuned NA engined car in another class.

Power is power, is doen't matter how you look at it, doesn't matter how its made, engines are not works of art.

I have this Honda Civic 1996, It's pretty working, but the main problems are the Vibration, especially when I turned on the Air-con, another is the Power Windows, One of my Power Windows is not working.

Why is everyone trying to race their civic... it's a car made to drive comfortably and save on gas. If you want passing power get yourself a Monte Carlo SS 454, 564 Horse with 640 Torque. That will lift your car off the ground and pass anything, only downside you have to deal with the 7.4 little engine, not much gas saving there.

1996 Honda Civic VTi 1.6i

Summary:

Fast, fun, economical and reliable

Faults:

The centre box on the exhaust system was blown at 51,000 miles and Honda stereo knackered at 53,000 miles.

General Comments:

For a 1.6, this car has fantastic performance and very good handling as well. Thoroughly good fun to drive, but I feel the rear view vision is not very good though. A real scorcher with very good economy.

1996 Honda Civic Coupe LS 1.6

Summary:

Pricey, lacklustre performance but has quality, reliability and style

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Solidly built, reliable and very well spec'd. Just not enough performance to match other coupes.

Lots of room in the back, plenty of leg room, good size boot.

Revs to 7000rpm nicely but doesn't get going till around 3-4k rpm.

1996 Honda Civic Coupe SR 1.6 VTEC

Summary:

Reliable, stylish motor, only lacking in true coupe performance

Faults:

Minor faults really:

Windscreen wiper stick needed a new switch.

Exhaust mounts under the rear box required refixing, although after 6000 miles, seems to be re-occurring.

General Comments:

Excellent car, don't let my marks betray how I feel about this car. I've run it into the ground, and I can't complain about its reliability and running costs.

Performance is OK, slow on pick up but great when you get above 4,500 rpm.

Running it is cheaper than my last car, but what I love most about it is you don't see that many about, and it has lovely styling, despite the interior being duller than a vicar's party.

I just recently purchased a coupe Sr and found the car to actually have quite a bit of power behind it, the comfort was great performance mega great. running costs were smooth enough as well. overall I would give the Honda coupe Sr a well earned 9/10.

1996 Honda Civic VTEC 1.5 petrol

Summary:

Amazing fun and serious quality!!!

Faults:

Not a thing! Apart from bald tyres (it must be all that wheel spinning away from other cars!)

General Comments:

Excellent car - really quiet, low and great! Dead fast too - renowned for being an old man's car, I enjoy proving to silly boys in Escort Turbos that they are driving nothing more than a lettuce with wheels!!!

1996 Honda Civic Coupe Lsi 1.6 petrol

Faults:

Radio failed. Negotiated free CD replacement through dealer with Clarion. Completely reliable.

General Comments:

This is an excellent car which I've had from new. Great package for £12,795 in 1996. Main criticism is too much road noise on bad surfaces and embarrassing headlamps. Great fun winding the engine up to 7000rpm!
