1994 Honda Concerto 16se 1.6 twin cam

Summary:

Good reliable car, and cheap to run

Faults:

Rear discs and one rear caliper have been replaced.

A section of exhaust has been replaced.

Front brake pads and a few bulbs.

General Comments:

It's a quick car when you get it over 3000 revs.

Looks aren't the best, but who needs looks when you're bathed in leather with A/C and electric everything, which for a now 15 year old has more spec than a lot new cars have now. I like it.

1994 Honda Concerto 1.6 16v

Summary:

Good, reliable, cheap car

Faults:

Sunroof occasionally didn't shut - just kept retrying till it did.

ABS light constantly on - common fault due to ABS sensor failure.

Drivers electric window gave up the ghost - taped it up and kept going.

Exhaust back box developed a large hole.

Couple of bulbs.

2 tyre's due to punctures.

Windscreen due to fight with stone.

General Comments:

For the age and price, the Concerto is a very well spec'd car. How many other cars of this age and class had toys like electric sunroof, 4 electric windows, electric heated mirrors, ABS, alloy wheels, spoiler etc?

Very comfy car to drive, and I'd know as I've had many Friday night jaunts up the M5 and back down again on a Sunday (spent 6 months working in Cornwall on site).

Reliability wise it never let me down, and it handled well enough. The power was there if needed for overtaking, and it wasn't too slow getting there either.

1991 Honda Concerto EX I 1.6 i

Summary:

Looks like a car your Grandpa would drive, But with the performance any

Faults:

Sunroof operation is noisy, And when opened and then closed it doesn't seem to return to it's proper closed position.

Passenger side Electric window is sluggish in operation.

Brake pedal has too much slack before the brakes respond.

General Comments:

Looks dull from the outside, But looks can be deceiving, A real wolf in sheep's clothing.

Hard to believe that a car this old, Has so many refinements that are normally found on more modern luxurious cars, i.e. Electric windows, mirrors & sunroof, Power steering, Air conditioning, Central locking, ABS, Height adjustable steering wheel & Seat belts.

The car also has Good bright headlights, which cast a good degree of light onto the left side of the road which aids driving down unlit roads which have no verge whilst facing oncoming traffic.

The rear seats are comfy, If only a little too narrow.

It has all-round excellent performance.

Good acceleration for safe overtaking.

Steering is light and very responsive.

1994 Honda Concerto 1.6i 16SE 1.6

Summary:

The most reliable car I have ever owned

Faults:

The exhaust system needed replacing after only 2 years. After market systems have lasted much longer.

The front brake disks needed replacing at 160000 miles.

The radiator corroded and needed replacing at 130000 miles.

The driver's seat has sunk a bit.

General Comments:

The car has been supremely reliable throughout its life.

It is very quick, although the engine does needed to be revved to get the most out of the performance.

1993 Honda Concerto 1.6i 16v DOHC 1.6i 16v DOHC

Summary:

Looks like a wolf, sounds like a wolf and goes like hell

Faults:

ALB system failed.

General Comments:

The interior is a little drab, but typical of the period of manufacture. Most car companies in the early 90's lost the plot with regards to interiors.

The colour coded wing mirrors, bumpers and large rear spoiler certainly gives that sporting look. An extra look of street hardness is given by the double cherry bomb rear box, although still a family car.

I can only describe driving this as complete fun. There is bags of power from the 1600cc engine and its on tap. Put your foot down and hold on.

Handling is excellent although roundabouts in the wet are a little frisky if your lead footed.

1992 Honda Concerto Blaise 1.6i 16v

Summary:

A Modifiers Dream

Faults:

The Exhaust Back-Box developed a large hole.

The Anti Lock Brakes light stays on constantly, I've had it checked out twice, but nobody knows what the problem is.

General Comments:

This Car is a Modifiers dream. I bought it as a 1.6i 16v running around 130 Brake Horse Power, it's now a 1.8i 16v running around 210 Brake Horse Power. I've Skimmed and Polished the Head, and had it Bored out to a 1.8, I've also had a Stage 1 Chip added to the Programmed Fuel Injection Unit.

It runs 0-60 in around 6 seconds, but only had 130 out of it Top End. I'm thinking of adding a Turbo Unit to it, and getting a new Gear Box fitted as the standard one is very low.

It handles like a dream on 17 inch Alloy's, and the Koni Adjustable Shock Absorber's keep it from leaning around bends.

It's a excellent car with lots of easy way's to make it faster.

Cool mate!!! Did you change your gear-box? I want to change mine and put in a close ratio or just a short-shifter. Can you offer any advice or name of a web-site to a fellow concerto owner. Thanks.

I have been reading the comments left about modding the Concerto. And was hoping someone would be able to tell me if there is much to do with a twin carb version? I already have a CDA carbon fiber air filter with forced air pipe off front bumper, and also a straight through exhaust with 5" rage bake box, which sounds spot on. It's also been dropped 40mm on g-max springs and shocks with 16/205/45 rims. Thanks for reading this lot and hope you can help.
