2005 Honda Jazz SE 1.3

Summary:

Spacious, but too many faults for a new car

Faults:

My hand brake failed and 20 minutes later it rolled into another car. My rear bumper was all dented. Honda didn't acknowledge the fault.

The seals on the doors were faulty and my back seats were saturated. They knew there was a seal problem, but didn't contact me.

General Comments:

This car is very spacious, and easy to handle.

However the car is terrible for condensation. I'm assuming this was because of the door seals going. The windows are still always steamed up, even though the seals were replaced & the car dried out.

I'm disappointed they won't acknowledge the hand brake fault. The only advise I was given was to keep it in gear in future, & put it on an extra notch.

I find that unacceptable for a car that was only 6 months old at the time. I now have to get the repair done prior to my lease expiring in March. It's put me off another Honda.

I've heard the 2005 Civics are being recalled because of the hand brake failing.

Oh my God! Not a problem on a Honda - I thought ALL Hondas were perfect!

I agree with that last comment; the way some boy racers go on about their old Civics on here is unbelievable. They would have you believe that Honda is the ultimate form of technology.

2005 Honda Jazz Sport 1.4

Summary:

Great little car, but delicate

Faults:

Bonnet catch replaced under warranty.

General Comments:

Well built car, which is very expensive compared to its rivals, but seems to hold its value.

The steering is overly light, but links well to the transmission and engine.

Does what it says on the can.

Agree with the handbrake comments elsewhere.

Sloshing under the seats is the fuel tank! That's where it is sited.

2005 Honda Jazz SE CVT 1.4 petrol

Summary:

Well designed well made

Faults:

No faults no reliability issues.

General Comments:

I've owned about five cars and this is best, we bought it to replace a 2001 VW Polo that suffered three electrical faults. We spent a weekend looking for replacements, saw the Jazz first, and then after about ten other manufacturer's dealers went back and bought the Jazz!

Very impressed with the build quality internal and external. Anyone we give a lift to finds the rear legroom very generous. The "magic" rear seats are fantastic for large loads or carrying bicycles with the front wheel off. Boot size is also very good for a small car. Audio system is good and the instruments are fine. My wife is quite short (5'0") and the driver's seat can be adjusted to suit her well which some small cars don't. She also finds the car easy to drive as it is only about 6" (15cms) longer than the Polo. Visibility is also good out of the rear and front windows.

Drive is very good, suspension is firm, CVT is very responsive (much better than a traditional torque auto box) - I only tend to use the manual override paddles on country roads, overtaking or steep hills where the manual override gives a bit more performance. I have got 58.5 miles per gallon on long motorway journeys by being frugal on the accelerator (60-65mph) but round town can easily get 40-45 mpg. I do use 98octane fuel though. Steering lock is also very good for a FW drive car.

Only slight niggle is there is no intermittent rear wipe on the SE model, either on / off.

I had to laugh when I read this comment, as it applies totally to my situation. I have a 2002 VW Polo bought new and in the last 5 years have had the alternator collapse on me as well as having, on three occasions every 18 months, a faulty brake light switch. I have taken the car to the VW workshop on two occasions and then to my trusted mechanic on the last occasion, as he now has computer facilities. No wonder the VW is having problems, as it was assembled in South Africa. From 1978 until 1992 I had a VW Golf and had absolutely no problems with it, apart from its age towards the end. That is why I sold it then and bought a Japanese car. I am also looking out to buy a Honda Jazz, mechanic's recommendation.

I had a Jazz 1.4 CVT-7 SE for two years (a lease car) and it was 100% reliable, the auto box was intuitive and smooth, returning 40 mpg or thereabouts. Undoubtedly the best car I've owned. I hope to buy one again in due course.
