1996 Hyundai Accent LSi Coupe 1.3

Summary:

Nippy and comfortable runabout

Faults:

Exhaust back box broke 18 hours after I bought the car.

The left headlight fills up with water, when on dipped beam the light comes on and goes off randomly, also builds up with condensation.

The driver's seat moves about, depending on how you sit on it.

General Comments:

I only bought this car a month ago, I'm only 17 and yet to pass my driving test, but I have always enjoyed driving it.

It's quick enough off the mark for me and good looking, it also gives good economy as well as cheap insurance.

If anyone who has just passed their driving test and wants something that's better than a Vauxhall Nova then consider one of these.

1996 Hyundai Accent LSi 1.3

Summary:

A good performer generally

Faults:

Last month I took my car to a local garage for a new clutch. For three weeks or so there were no problems. Now when I start my car and select first gear, the car judders. I then press the clutch down, press the accelerator and allow my foot to reach bite point, and the car moves forward. This happens at the most minimum speed. I am worried that this fault may ruin my engine and/or gear box.

If anyone has an idea as to what may be the problem please let me know on my email at: Bbamrah@lineone.net

Many Thanks,

Baldev.

1996 Hyundai Accent LSi 1.3 unleaded

Summary:

An excellent family car

Faults:

One of the fuses blew and the engine stopped working. It appeared as if the timing belt had failed. I called in the RAC and the mechanic discovered that a live wire under the dashboard was touching the steering column - which caused a short circuit to occur.

There was scoring on the steering column. The wire was encased in insulation wire and rehung. The fuse was replaced and car started first time.

Since this event, the car has been OK.

When I first got the car from the dealer, "check engine" light frequently used to come on whilst driving. However since the "repair", this problem has since disappeared.

General Comments:

Generally, the interior has much to be desired, but the performance is excellent.

1996 Hyundai Accent Mvi 1.5 petrol

Faults:

The front tyres needed replacement after only 5000 miles.

General Comments:

My Second Hyundai, The first was the old style Coupe MVi SE. - A great car.

Unfortunately the new one can be a real rattler on certain road surfaces and can 'wobble/shake' badly at very low speeds e.g. traffic jams.

Otherwise no other problems and mechanically sound so far ... 6000 miles.

1996 Hyundai Accent GSi 1.5 petrol

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

The car has always got us from A to B and is fairly comfortable. Fuel economy when doing short journeys is low (about 22 mpg).

This model is an improvement on the earlier offerings from Hyundai (i.e. the Pony and X2).
