1998 Hyundai Accent Si 1.3 petrol SOHC

Summary:

Well built, quick, cheap to run and reliable

Faults:

Head gasket, but this was due to previous owner. He dropped a small screw in the bore through the spark pug hole. He had to remove the head to retrieve it and put the head back on using the same gasket.

Anti-roll bar mounts rusted badly.

General Comments:

This car is a pocket rocket it is seriously nippy,.

The handling is very good as mine is on 16 inch rims, though it could do with a strut brace to control yaw within the body.

The interior is in excellent condition.

It is a very comfortable car with very good headroom.

1998 Hyundai Accent Si 1.3

Summary:

A fantastic car, I will be keeping it until it dies!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this car at all; I have owned it for 18 months and have had no trouble what so ever.

General Comments:

I am very pleased with this car; it's easy to drive and comfortable.

I would recommend a Hyundai Accent to anyone because of this.

The interior is smart, the colours are nice, it is roomy - especially the boot!

For an older car it looks fantastic; it has a modern look and the body and interior look great for the age of the car.

For a 1.3 it is nippy, I find it easy to accelerate to high speeds.

I have heard that the Accent is not good at high speeds, however I wouldn't know this as I don't break the law, and the fastest I have ever driven is 70mph.

The only negative thing I can say about my car is that it is not great at cornering, especially at higher speeds and in wet weather; but I think this is because the tyres are not very wide.

It wouldn't make a good sports car, but that doesn't bother me, it is good enough for what I want.

1998 Hyundai Accent gli 13.4 petrol

Summary:

Great value and reliability

Faults:

Only one small problem with this car and it was a roll pin that holds on the gear change linkage to the gear box. cost 40 pence to fix.

General Comments:

A great value very reliable car. I would not hesitate to buy from this manufacturer again. although not the fastest car available it cruises all day at 80 mph the controls are easily reached while driving and having an adjustable intermittent wiper was very useful for motorway spray.

1998 Hyundai Accent GT 2.0

Summary:

If you wanna stay alive avoid this plastic car

Faults:

Fuel pump malfunctioned.

It consumes too much fuel.

I think plastic is tougher than the body of the accent.

Had to change front suspension after going over 1 speed bump at 30mph.

General Comments:

This car is nothing and worthless, if you wan a sport car don't buy a Korean car. Imagine if you have an accident with this car, with the body made by very cheap metal I don't own this vechile anymore and looking for another and much much better sport car possibly a Toyota Glanza or VW Golf.

Its Speed is great and its comfortable enough, but handling is poor and in rain you have be all eyes on the road.

Engine is made in Korea so don't expect much, it consumes too much fuel I mean I had to buy another car for everyday use and use the accent only in weekends.

1998 Hyundai Accent Coupe Si 1.3

Summary:

A good town car with a few little problems

Faults:

Rear bumper is easily scratched/marked when loading and unloading the boot.

Water gets inside the door panels causing the window guides to rust. This has caused the electric windows to be very slow.

The interior fan speed switch's illumination broke when removing the centre console panel.

Electric aerial seized up after getting bent. Low bushes/tree branches caused this.

The headlight switch stalk was faulty and needed replacing.

The bolt in the anti-roll linkage fell out. This caused a lot of rattling before I found out what it was.

The bolt attaching the clutch pedal spring sheared off. I had to rig it with a bent nail just to drive to the garage.

General Comments:

The car is very quick around town but lacks power on the motorway. It has been known to struggle past 85mph.

It's very noisy on the motorway.

The steering is very light and accurate.

This car is probably not suitable for inexperienced drivers, as understeer and oversteer is quite apparent on high speed cornering.

Seats can prove a little uncomfortable on a long journey.

The windscreen wiper settings are excellent.

There is not much in the way of internal storage.

Fuel economy is not great for a car with such a small engine.

Only having a small 42-litre fuel tank means having to fill up every 280 miles.

1998 Hyundai Accent Coupe I 1.3 12v petrol

Faults:

Serious rattling at high speed, inconsistent petrol consumption - sometimes 30mpg, sometimes 15mpg doing the same journey.

General Comments:

Good car - let down by poor image, horrible interior and use of low quality oil and parts when servicing. Oh yes... massive depreciation.

I agree! Hyundai servicing is expensive but they use crappy multigrade oil. I went to Halfords. £250 for a 30,000 service, 2 expensive tyres, front brakes and an MOT including £40 oil.

As for the car, the interior and fuel economy are pretty bad. But performance is surprising for a 1.3, especially an auto and the handling is fun too!

Hyundai cars tend to have problems with high speeds as the acceleration goes faulty on a lot of them.

Good points. (1998 MVi) very quick first time car, looks well when lowered and the right things are done to them. Full SS exhaust sounds so good on these cars and full induction kit.

Bad points. Very bad with petrol, very!!.. Leaks a lot, dampness etc in the winter!...

Have had 3 MVis in last year. And I love these cars!! :p.

Tabb.

1998 Hyundai Accent MVI 1.5 16v injection petrol

Faults:

Serious shudder between 60 - 80mph not solved yet; poorly fitted body kit.

General Comments:

Average car, poor build quality, poor handling, quirky throttle response and low mpg. Interior horrible, cramped and rattles a lot.

OK for price... just NOT a sports car and no SRi/GTi beater, not at ALL!
