2002 Hyundai Accent CDX 1.5 petrol

Summary:

A good all-rounder that is sadly starting to show its age, and become less and less practical to own

Faults:

Blown fuse.

Dead battery.

Holes in the OEM exhaust.

Brake pipes.

Thermostat.

These are things that have happened naturally whilst I have owned the car; other things have gone wrong, but usually as a result of me tinkering. Nothing has gone wrong with car before I owned it as far as I can recall.

Also, obviously things like batteries eventually die, and other things will expire and need replacing due to wear and tear, but most things that are actually designed and built by Hyundai are extremely reliable.

I am yet to see a single Hyundai broken down at the side of the road, and there are plenty of Hyundais out there now.

General Comments:

I love this car. It's my first car, and although I could afford something faster, flashier or more economical, I choose to stick with this car as it's served me and my family well (was once the primary family car, then my mum's, then mine when I bought it off them after passing my test).

It's what I call a fast-slow car - it is most certainly in the slow car category, but is actually quite nippy once the revs are up, and if it's just you or one other passenger in the car. With passengers in the back or heavy luggage, this car struggles! It also struggles with the A/C on.

I'm sure if you are used to driving more modern cars, then this car would seem terrible, but really they are quite remarkable cars, and driven sensibly, can still return pretty good mileage, and driven hard, can get adrenaline pumping and bring a smile to your face, even though it is far from being a sports car!

2002 Hyundai Accent GSI 1..3

Summary:

Good FIRST car, but don't buy this as a SECOND car

General Comments:

Very basic interior.

As cheap as nuts.

Not the most comfortable of interiors and long journeys take it out of you.

Struggles up some gradients.

But overall, will never let you down.

Once it picks up, it handles 80-90mph on motorways very comfortably and overtaking will leave other cars behind instantly.

If you are looking for a low priced car that is cheap to insure with a bit of power, you couldn't go wrong starting out with this.

2002 Hyundai Accent MVI 1.5 16v DOHC

Summary:

Good value for money

Faults:

Since I have had this car I have not had any problems, however I am not happy with the performance of the brakes. The car has no remote central locking and no alarm which let it down a great deal.

General Comments:

The car seems reasonably fast, but it feels like it is going to fall apart when traveling at high speed and doesn't handle very well around sharp bends, The car looks pretty good and is quite comfy, but I am not happy with the overall performance.

2002 Hyundai Accent MVI 1.5

Summary:

Shed

Faults:

There is nothing that can go wrong with such crude engineering.

General Comments:

I have had a most boring 6 months at the hands of the accent, the only highlight being when I crashed into a VW Lupo whilst driving along which ripped the side off my car, the lupo drove away with only a broken wing-mirror. This highlights that you get what you pay for so with the insurance money I am going to buy a volkswagen and put up with the high cost.
