2003 Hyundai Santa Fe GSI 4x4 2.0L turbo diesel

Summary:

Lovely car... shame about the clutch

Faults:

I can't believe that the clutch is going on my Santa Fe, it's only done 49000 miles. A new clutch is going to cost £162 from a main agent, then another £240 to have it fitted. After reading the reviews on here about the clutch problem with the Santa Fe, where people seem to replacing the clutch every X amount of miles, I'll be selling mine as soon as the new clutch is fitted.

General Comments:

It's a shame as the car I like a lot, it has a stylish body, nice and comfortable, drives great and I get 35 to the gallon around town. Shame the clutch lets such a nice car down.

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0 Diesel 2.0 diesel

Summary:

Funky SUV with amazing 5 year warranty

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

OK SUV with amazing 5 year warranty. Cheap-ish to buy & run. Friendly dealer service. Loads of space.

Average on road handling - well, good if the road is smooth with no potholes - that excludes the UK, them!

Quite comfortable (much more car-like than a Suzuki Grand Vitara for example, and less bumpy too)

Loads of space, with OK performance for a heavy 2.0l vehicle (would tow my caravan better than a 1.9TDi Passat auto). OK turning circle, excellent brakes, medium weight steering.

This model has good "grunt" (plenty of torque) for towing, but its general performance is rather sluggish. If you don't tow, get the 2.6 petrol.

Cannot believe they have such a poor "predicted" reliability in the USA as mine and several other I know of ('03 on) have been faultless.

Lumpy wheel arches and bonnet scoop make it difficult to judge where the car ends when parking. Reversing sensors a must.

The only significant criticism I have is that both my wife and I suffered back pain from driving it (we're both over 50) - it seems impossible to get the right relationship between seat and steering wheel adjustments.

2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

Summary:

I was very disappointed

Faults:

Multiple complete electronic failure. Speedometer, tachometer, gauges, cruise control failure.

Eventually, radio began spontaneously turning on and off.

General Comments:

Of the approximate six months we had the car, well over half the time was back at the shop. First, speed sensor was replaced and eventually, the entire vehicle was rewired. Even after all of this, the problem remained.

Eventually, Hyundai took it back under the Lemon Law and we got a Hyundai Sonata in replacement.

2004 Hyundai Santa Fe CRTD 2 litre diesel

Summary:

Excellent!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This is a first class car. We use it for towing our caravan (1208kg) which it does superbly in all respects and gives about 30 mpg towing and 38 mpg solo. Excellent on farmer's wet fields even with the caravan attached.

The space is wonderful with plenty of room every where.

The turbo-diesel engine is quiet in the cab and responsive. I had to top the oil up at 6k miles.

Service costs could be high. The dealer quoted £380 for the first service. My local garage using Hyundai parts and service schedule charged me £182. The biggest item was the pollen filter at £38! (In the EU you can have your car serviced any where as long as the service conforms to the manufacturer's schedule.)

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe GSi 2.4

Faults:

I have owned the Santa Fe for about a year and absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it.

General Comments:

The car is excellent to drive and is very smooth and refined.

The fixtures and fittings are all of excellent quality (contrary to motor magazines opinions) and nothing squeaks.

The specification is absolutely superb on this base model.

You can't beat the five year manufacturer's warranty.

I use my car for towing a large caravan and it excels at this task.

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe CDX 2.7 petrol

Summary:

Excellent value for money package

Faults:

The only problem I have had with the car so far has been the Sony radio unit. This was replaced 5 times before the faults were fixed.

General Comments:

I have been very impressed with the car.

Performance has been excellent.

Build quality good also.

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.4 GSI petrol

Summary:

A lot of car for your money

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Had Mitsubishi Pinin before and found it too small for two adults and our three year old. The controls are a bit plasticky, but this is the norm with most Japanese/Korean type vehicles. Engine very responsive and is very stable at higher speeds on motorway. The handling is more car like and not 4x4 like which my wife prefers. A lot of extras are given as standard such as air con, CD, electric sunroof etc. Will definitely replace with a new one in a few years time.

2002 Hyundai Santa Fe 4wd td 2.0 turbo diesel

Summary:

A super smooth highly capable 4x4

Faults:

The only thing that has gone wrong/still going wrong is the digital date keeps resetting its self.

General Comments:

Much consideration was done before purchasing this vehicle and I have to say that both the dealer and the vehicle have exceeded our expectations so far.

I can't fault the performance and economy of the engine especially since its such a heavy vehicle.

The interior is comfy and I prefer its driving position to my last car which was a ford galaxy.

The stereo/CD player is excellent, but the rear doors could do with speakers fitted instead of them being in the boot.

The cars handling is a little soft around town, but is very stable on long motorway hauls.
