1998 Isuzu Trooper Duty 3.0 Td

Summary:

A great car provided you have a spare £5000 to spend on it when the engine blows up

Faults:

One month after purchasing my trooper the glow plugs were replaced due to starting problems in the morning.

After six months I experienced overheating.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer for examination. The head was removed and was found to be very slightly distorted. This was machined. One thousandth of an inch was taken off and the head refitted. Still the problem persisted.

After stripping the engine again, a crack was found on the bore.

Warranty company have refused to pay for this fault as they say overheating caused the crack to appear. This has been found to be untrue, in other words the crack caused the overheating.

General Comments:

Apart from mechanical failure the trooper was a very good car.

It had bags of power and was really nice to drive.

Lots of cabin space.

1998 Isuzu Trooper Duty 3.0 TD

Summary:

Tough, reliable hard working 'slave'

Faults:

Clutch oil seal replaced under warranty at 24,000 miles, with a new clutch replaced under warranty.

Injector connector came apart at 55,000 miles, but repaired under warranty.

Several aerials replaced - not under warranty! They are on the near side and on left hand drive roads, catch tree branches. These aerials must be the best selling dealer replacement part ever dreamed up by any car maker!

The dealer fitted air con was not a good idea - we had several goes at getting it to work reliably. I will stick to genuine OEM build next time!

General Comments:

The engine is really tough and pulls well. I tow a heavy Ifor Williams flat bed trailer for over 50% of all driving and it is as if the trailer is not there. It is a stunking good workhorse.

Not a vehicle to impress the golf club brigade - for that a BMW or Mercedes is the ticket, but it is acceptably comfortable, reliable and versatile.

1998 Isuzu Trooper Duty 3.1td

Summary:

A reliable workhorse

Faults:

Element on rear de-mister broke.

General Comments:

Very, very good vehicle, however the supplied tyres are too road based. Combination tyres would have been better.

1998 Isuzu Trooper 3 door 3.0 diesel

Summary:

Well put together

Faults:

Would not start in the morning. It needed a modification done to the injectors, but the dealer was unhelpful because it had been a parallel import. Cannot obtain a spare key because I do not have a security code and Isuzu UK do not have it.

General Comments:

Nice to drive.

1998 Isuzu Trooper Duty 3.1 turbo diesel

Summary:

Very reliable

Faults:

Only minor faults, the volume control on the radio is faulty and the electric aerial.

General Comments:

I use this Trooper as a real "work horse". I have totally abused it, but it refuses to let me down.

It handles well for a 4x4, it returns an average of 28 mpg and cruises at 70-80mph with very little noise.

The interior could be more hard-wearing and is very dull, grey plastic everywhere!
