2015 Jeep Renegade Limited 4x4 1.4 petrol turbo 170PS

Summary:

A real adventurer in a designer shirt

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

My beloved Forester died and I needed to replace it with another proper farm-ready offroader, I found this Jeep Renegade minter on a private sale and hour away.

I wasn't going to buy another old car or a nice car, so when I saw it and checked it was genuinely as-new, I bought it.

It drives like a jeep as opposed to a rally car on stilts like the Forester, but once I got used to the slow steering and lack of power, I found it drove quite nicely.

Cabin is a lovely place to be, comfortable and well made.

Boot is a little small, but a larger boot means a much larger car these days and I wanted to be able to park in supermarket car parks. It will do.

Grip and off road ride is great. Economy is disappointing round town - 26 mpg, but on a run will get a genuine 56 mpg.

Early days, but this quirkly banana yellow beast is off to a flying start as a farm car.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Fantastic review, keep us updated. Would love to know how these modern Jeeps hold up long term.

They sell these in the US as well, but the thing is that they are basically a Fiat with Jeep branding. So IMHO not "Technically" a Jeep per se. But they do get somewhat decent marks in terms of reliability, so if you want a small SUV, it's not the worst way to go.

Original poster here - 2000 miles in. The ZF 9 speed gearbox is awful. It never seems to know what gear to be in and the small engine can't convince the 'box to stay in a high gear.

The brakes are horrifically over-servoed. This means that coupled with the clumsy changes from the gearbox, slowing down to a stop is like riding a pony.

I have a major service booked, including transmission fluid / filter change, a cambelt /waterpump change, and a flush and fill engine service to see if that improves smoothness. The McGard lug nut key is missing so I have to send off for a replacement from Germany before I can get this completed.

Not really happy with my purchase so far, despite it feeling very well built, extremely comfortable and great off-road. I'll report if the services improve things.

Fiats have been well made for a couple decades over here in Yerp now, and I understand the Renegade was a true collaboration between Jeep and Fiat engineers.

I think Stellantis is the new "Mopar"?

This really does feel a quality and stylish piece of kit, albeit with a horrible gearbox. A pity really as I need to use it as a farm car for my horses and donkeys.
