2012 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited 2.8 litre diesel

Summary:

All in one vehicle for all seasons

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

4 door commercial van.

Gets great looks from other motorists.

Very rare motor here in the Republic of Ireland.

Very comfortable leather seats.

Consumption is 9.0 l/km.

Road tax is 333 euros for commercial / van.

It's cool to drive something different to the usual plain boring 4x4 / cars from Asia and Europe.

Reviews on the Jeep Wrangler are appalling in Europe.

Owner update:

MPG is now 35.13 or 8.0 l/km.

The engine is so quiet.

The manual gearbox is good, but you have to keep changing gears to keep up with the vehicle ahead of you.

Thank you.

2009 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited 2.8 CRD turbo diesel

Summary:

Just fantastic - the car I always wanted!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with my Wrangler.

General Comments:

This is my third Wrangler, I've had a YJ, a TJ and now an JK. This one is by far the best and the cheapest to run and feed.

Mine is silver metallic; it's a bright, airy 4x4 that never ceases to amaze me with its eagerness - it will crawl along off road, or do over 100mph on the motorway.

I can't think of anything bad to say about this car, although it isn't fast, it's a proper 4x4, it has go-anywhere ability, and removing the roof and doors in the summer will get you some jealous looks when you drive along the seafront.

Well, it isn't the most frugal car on the road, nor can it corner like a Ferrari, but it performs well, the 2.8CRD engine giving it acceptable economy and I'm pleased I bought it.

In short; who needs a Land Rover Defender or Discovery when they can have a Wrangler. (And who needs air conditioning when you can remove the roof in less than 4 minutes...)

Wish the diesel was available in the US.

1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2.5

Summary:

A very fun car

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Looks great.

Surprisingly easy and fun to drive.

Very comfortable seats.

Women love it!

Watch out for the expensive parts costs. A hard top will set you back about £800, second hand. If you want cheaper parts try Ebay america and get them imported.

1993 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2.5i

Faults:

Cat Converter is achilles heel. After two failures, fitted a straight pipe - still passes emissions. Engine management system failed. In fairness - used heavily off-road with non-standard tyres and suspension lift.

General Comments:

Have bought 1997 TJ Wrangler I-6 so I must like them!

How did you like the 4 cylinder?

The 2.5 will be severely underpowered if you plan to add bigger tires... tow anything... or get anywhere in a "hurry".

I have a 2000 model model with the 2.5, and it's getting 10 MPG with 31" tires. 91,000 miles and not a lot of failures, but I still wouldn't buy another 2.5. The 4.0 is the way to go. The engine doesn't have to work as hard during normal use, and offers plenty of reliability and capability. My 1993 4.0 gets twice the mileage of the 2.5.
