2010 Kia Picanto 1 1.0
A vehicle of remarkably good quality
This is the face-lifted old style model, not the new current one.
For a low priced vehicle it is very well built. It's simple and basic, but more than adequate. Nothing feels cheap. All the panel gaps are even; the body has been put together accurately.
The interior is not luxurious or plush, but sturdy and tastefully finished. It's all black inside, but it works well aesthetically, and four years on, it's still a pleasure every time you climb aboard.
The orange glow of the instruments adds a cosy ambiance. The controls are all positive, smooth and precise; you get the feeling that this car will last and last. To date there have been no faults whatsoever.
Even though it's a small car, the seats are supportive and comfortable even on long journeys.
The engine is smooth and quiet. With a capacity of just one litre it's not particularly punchy, but it's perfectly adequate for my purposes.
The car handles and feels as if it were larger and more expensive than it is.
The gear change is a delight. Normally I'd have preferred an automatic, but in this car changing gear is a such a pleasure that I'd miss it if I swapped the car for one with an auto gearbox.
The service from the dealer has been outstanding - the best I've ever experienced. Kia seems to be going from strength to strength on every front, so I expect to stay with the brand. I have no connection with Kia other than as a very satisfied customer.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
