1988 Lancia Delta LX 1.3

Summary:

An Italian super-car in a practical body

Faults:

The rear hub is making a bit of noise at the moment and needs changing.

It keeps stalling in hot weather due to the huge amount of pressure in the fuel tank. (it is completely gas tight)

General Comments:

The Delta was and still is the fastest car in its class. It handles fantastic+ly and never tires.

The seats are a bit rubbish as you sit on them not in them, and its the worlds only 5 door 2+2!

This was my dream car as a child (the standard car not the muscle bound Integrale). It would still love to have a mid 80s 1600 GTie in a dark blue metallic. Ital Design at their best.

Summary:

Don't consider anything else (except perhaps an Evo)

Faults:

Alternator, oil cooler hose, and nothing else.

General Comments:

Superb! I've driven Imprezas, Cosworths, Caterhams, and this is the most enjoyable and fastest (in real life - wet, oily roads) of all of them. Even on the racetrack it's quicker than a Lotus Carlton!

It's perfect - who cares about 25mpg when it's this much fun and so reliable.

Hi, I am a owner of a Lotus Carlton. I was puzzled at the way you said your 2.0 8V is faster than a Lotus Carlton? You must have a fast 2.0 there! Did you know that a Lotus Carlton is a 3.6 Twin Turbo 24V? 181mph? 0-62: 5.9seconds? 0-100mph: 10.8 seconds? I'd love to race you.

Faults:

Oil pipe and turbo pipes split. Apart from that nothing has really gone wrong with the thing.

General Comments:

After traveling in this car as a passenger, then currently owning an Escort RS turbo, I just HAD to own this car.. The engine loudly pubbles away.. and when that Turbo kicks in - It turns into a complete animal!.. The engine sound is enough to scare some people!.. This car also feels like it will do 80+ around the corners!... haven't tried it though... Get this car if you have the chance!..

The only bad thing I have to say about it is the speedo is hidden to the right of the dash. Small and the top half can be hidden behind the steering wheel. However if boost pressure is your pleasure it's nicely in front of you!...

1988 Lancia Delta Integrale 8v 2.0 turbo 4wd petrol

Faults:

Steam cleaning by professionals resulted in a new 'brain'!

Mostly consumables. Main dealers charge a fortune for a clutch.

General Comments:

The 8 valve car is biased to front wheel drive which makes it safer. The car has NEVER let me down. They are a lot cheaper to service than 16 valvers. Look around when you want someone to work on it, the only main dealer I have tried was extortionate.

They are easy to drive in traffic but the clutch can get a bit heavy. On the open road, there ain't much about for this sort of money that will get you there as quick, make no mistake. Buy one to drive it and the niggles just don't matter. I changed the plugs, air filter dump valve and exhaust and left the rest standard. The difference was incredible. Think carefully before 'chipping' one, I have been advised not to as it could affect reliability. There are some good RHD conversions around (Mine is !).
