1980 Land Rover Series 3 109 ex mod 2.247

Faults:

Both internal fill fuel tanks leaked. £80 each. just replaced drivers side and will run on that.

Fuel sender replaced £14.

The canvas top leaks, but I'll fix it with some waterproofer (the type you paint on brickwork).

New battery £48.

General Comments:

This is my first Landy. she had been sitting idle for the last six years. I kept asking the owner for the last six years if he would sell her. He finally gave in for £200.

I simply changed the battery. Topped up the oil. Took the fuel feed pipe out of one of the leaky tanks and stuffed it into a portable fuel can. Hand pumped the fuel through to the carb. Put the key in. turned it... and she started. FANTASTIC.

Good British engineering.

1980 Land Rover Series 3 ex MoD 2.25 petrol

Faults:

I had a set of tyres fitted for the MoT last week and one of the inner tubes has a leaky valve. Erm that's it!

General Comments:

Bought this old land rover for peanuts off a well known auction site for some fun as I am bored with driving around in standard euro boxes.

Utterly reliable and just sailed through the MoT which is not bad for a 20 year old.

Performance is 'adequate' at best, but who cares.

Handling and steering are scary.

The soft top makes it fun in summer and is also water proof when it rains.

All in all I have had my money's worth in laughs out of this car already, and the Land rover clubs are very helpful.

I love my Landrover!

What you can get is a 119bhp head or change the diffs to range rover versions with higher ratios will then do 100mph.

Bit scary though!!

1980 Land Rover Series 3 LWB 2.25 diesel

Summary:

Brilliant all-weather, All-terrain car

Faults:

Suspension's looking a bit worse for wear (Leaf springs are spreading)

Brake lights don't come on (Due to the switch)

Very, very smoky.

General Comments:

Noisy, unless you use ear plugs for every journey, don't bother with them. My car has been relatively reliable a few minor glitches are all, nothing serious.

I love them even if lots of people don't.

They are also a relatively easy restoration for the beginner.

Good muscle-builder as well due to the steering.
