1976 Leyland Sherpa 1.8 diesel

Summary:

It did its job

Faults:

King pins seized, temperature gauge failed, cylinder head cracked.

The temperature gauge wouldn't read past normal, consequently I was unaware the cracked cylinder head was causing the engine to overheat until it seized up.

General Comments:

It was a very ordinary workhorse van, less comfortable than the Transit van it replaced, but used less fuel. However it performed its duties satisfactorily.

It was possibly the last vehicle British Leyland made any profit with. Second only to the ubiquitous Ford Transit in sales. I have driven most contemporary vans from its era, and it was capable, but unremarkable.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No
