1982 Lincoln Mark VI 302

Summary:

Bargain luxury cruiser

Faults:

Heater leaked soon after I got it. I spent half a day getting the unit out, and found someone had gone to the same trouble, and just stuffed filler around the leak and put it back! I had it re-cored.

Oil pick up tube broke at 140000 miles.

Rear springs replaced at 150000 miles.

Central locking played up; I removed the relay, cleaned up the points, and had no more trouble.

Drivers window motor failed, swapped for one of the rear ones.

General Comments:

No question, the most comfortable car I ever owned, for quietness, seat comfort and ride quality.

Performance was adequate, it seemed slow when I first had it, but it was so quiet I didn't realise at first that it was quicker than I thought.

All the toys worked; I particularly liked the digital dash.

It had surprisingly good handling as well; not like a sports car, but better than I expected from a large car like this.

It had reasonable fuel economy too, 22 mpg overall (according to the digital dash).

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I have a 1982 Mark 6 - and can't seem to get the digital dash lights to brighten up in daylight - they're hard to see on bright days.

Anyone have any ideas?
