1995 Mazda 323 GLX 1.5 DOHC

Summary:

My brother called it a slug

Faults:

Fine and dependable, a typical japanese motor which never missed a beat. Top marks for first time starting any time of the day, any time of the year.

During the purchase it drove smoothly absorbing pot hole ridden roads with ease.

On driving it home (90 miles) I noticed the CV joint clicking on full lock noticeably on left turns... funny I don't remmeber this on the test route as most turns were right!!! Therefore hiding the fault. Devious dealers for you!!!

The drivers seat had a slight rock to it which I put up with for the 2 years owned.

General Comments:

Apart from the above I could always rely on the 323c.

The shape of this particular model was the biggest attraction initially.

Very distinctive, most people glanced twice with its CRX style glass boot rear panel.

It was a compact car not the regular run of the mill.

Bought for 1800 sterling in 2005. Sold for 825 sterling in 2007.

The power of 1.5 DOHC was probably more appreciated in a manual than the auto box, which is one of the reasons for selling.

I found the automatic gearbox, as you'd expect, smooth and changed easily everytime with no hesitation.

Fuel consumption was another story, how does 60 miles to 10 quid (at 90p per litre) sound? (combination of motorway city driving)

I was bemused, was it due to the engine or auto box?? Or sunday driving style. Which I had to adopt on permanent basis.

Whatever it was, I will never buy another auto. EVER.

1995 Mazda 323 F 1.8i

Summary:

Cheap, fast, trendy

Faults:

Sunroof leaked.

Brake lights blew.

Fluids need checking once a week.

Tyres seem expensive.

Windscreen is not bug resistant.

General Comments:

I keep curbing my wheels. This is due to the stupid way the steering wheel turns left and right and body roll due to the lateral harnessing.

You can put any tyres on that are the correct size, so it depends on what brands you chose. Maybe you need a wheel alignment; that's why your steering is funny due to driving into curbs.

Insects can be attracted to any vehicle, maybe lots of insects from where you are.

If leakage in sunroof, it's a minor problem to fix. Go to Mr windscreens, a bit of glue will do.

Leakage usually due to rubber being fiddled with.

1995 Mazda 323 GLXi 1.8 petrol

Summary:

Fantastic value

Faults:

Nothing at all.

General Comments:

Just like another review I read.

I just can't stop looking out the wind.

It is a head turner it is immaculate.

For it's age only slight about town dents.

Nothing to worry about and best of all.

It's a Black one, I am very tempted to search for another one.

And wrap it in cling film until this one dies.

Because they don't make this sleek design anymore.

That is a real shame I love it my wife loves me loving it too.

I can't stop her driving it.

1995 Mazda 323 GLXi 1.5 16v DOHC

Summary:

Classy looking posing machine

Faults:

Nothings gone with the car during my ownership, but electric aerial was not working, but fixed this myself.

General Comments:

The cars great, love it! Highly recommend this car.

It handles well and quite quick for a 1.5.

Starts first time every time.

The interior is nice in mine with air-con and walnut effect dashboard plus sporty bucket seats.

I don't think you can get a better looking car for the money taking in the price of the car, tax and insurance plus it looks far better than most cars coming out today. (especially the model that replaced it)!

1995 Mazda 323 GXi 1.5 16v DOHC

Summary:

A reliable sexy nippy hatch back

Faults:

Drivers side lock stiff, fixed by fiddling with it.

General Comments:

My last car was extremely unreliable and virtually bankrupted me in repairs, I can't understand why anybody owns BMW's they are poor.

I purchased this car because of its stunning looks and its attractive price tag. I thought it would make a good stop gap until I can get out of debt. But have fell in love with it since I have had it.

Its one of if not the best looking hatch backs out there. Plus the engine is a miracle, I went on a rolling road to make sure it was running OK after I bought it, the 105bhp developed showed the engine was in good nick. No smoke and passes emissions test with flying colours. I bought this car as a stop gap, but actually think I will be keeping it for a few years yet.

The car is nippy too for a 1.5 it car beat 9/10 cars from lights and revs so happily to its rev limiter at 6500rpm.

If your out there driving a boring beamer or the all too common focus, trade it in for one of these and then take several long distance holidays with the money saved. I know I will when I pay off the ex-wifes credit card bills.

I agree totally with the review! I have owned a 323f for about 18 months now and still like driving snowy (it's white and drives?) I have read several reviews and I am glad to see that everyone is enjoying the old Mazda's lovely shape and feel. Shame on Mazda for not keeping with the style and introducing that horrible new shape and badging it 323f...
