1993 Mazda Eunos Roadster 1.6 turbo

Summary:

Best car I have ever been in with out a doubt!

Faults:

Water Pump Broke (My fault for adding a G-Reddy Turbo with boost turned up too high).

Driver's electric window.

General Comments:

Very quick car especially after a Turbo conversion.

Best handling car ever! If a faster car overtakes you wait until a corner and you will be back in front, no body roll at all. However this takes away any comfort, but far more fun!

Cabin is very small and you are very low to the ground which adds to the sporty feel, however it is very plastic.

Rear wheel drive is great and sticks to the road. Be careful during the wet!

Turbo pulls at 3,000 revs at is boosting by 4,500 amazing feeling.

I bought a veil-side body kit and people mistake it for a new shape RX-7.

1992 Mazda Eunos V-Spec 1.6 16v

Summary:

Lots of fun, great value and brilliant hood design

Faults:

Nothing so far. I have only had this car for 2 weeks.

General Comments:

I bought my Eunos import as it is better value for money compared to the British MX5's. I read many of the reviews on this website and decided it sounded reliable as well as fun!

How true these reviews were. This car is such a fun machine, with its low ride height and snug seats. The tan leather seats and wooden steering wheel and dash bring back memories of older classic cars, but the mechanicals are modern and robust.

The gear change (for those who appreciate such things) is just fantastic, and the steering is light and smooth. Quite a revelation after all my previous front wheel drive hatchbacks! A Very well balanced car.

The hood design is simplicity in itself, and one person can have the top down in half a minute. A brilliant design.

Even with the hood up this car is a little noisier on motorways, but it's not as bad as you may imagine. You honestly adjust to it after about 10 minutes. In any case, this car was designed to be driven with the top down and it shows when you drive it.

I have not had this car long enough to comment on reliability or dealer service.

The Eunos/MX5 is the sort of car that people admire without it being 'flashy'. Perfect for those of us who appreciate a good car, but don't want to be labelled as posey.

If like me you buy one as a result of a review like this, enjoy. Fully recommended.

I have to endorse these comment fully. I've just taken possession of a quality example of a 91 V spec and it is a delight. The tan leather, wood and chrome in the interior takes me back to another era and boy does that thing shift! I would challenge anyone to find another car that provides so much fun, style, performance, economy and reliability at the price. Bring on those sunny summer Sundays!

1991 Mazda Eunos Roadster 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Mazda got this so right..

Faults:

One headlamp blew- replaced for £8.99.

Leather tab on rear window zip snapped so I tied another one on.

Total bill- £8.99 in 70,000km, other than standard service items.

General Comments:

Cars don't come more reliable than this.

I get in excess of 40 miles per gallon on a motorway run! just keep below 4000 revs if you can. Mess with the Silver Germans and it's more like 25 miles per gallon.

My Roadster is still worth what I paid for it, give or take 500 pounds.

...and it is just so much fun. I love the way that boy racer in his XR1.1 who fills your mirror on the straight just disappears when you get to a tight bend or island. this car is on rails.

I so agree with this comment. We have a ’91 Eunos Roadster bought in September 2001 and did less than 2000 miles in our first year! Now I use it every day and just love the dry days when I can get the top off.

We’re going to invest in a new roof with a glass window, but other than that we’ve not spent anything on it in nearly 4 years.

When we bought our Eunos from Sam Goodwin Motors (now in Nuneaton) some friends treated the fact that it was an import with disdain. They had a ‘proper’ Mazda MX5 but, boy, you should have seen their faces when they realised that the spec of our 10year old import was better than their newer model.

We are members of a local church and there are now 5 Eunos/MX5 owners in our congregation– it looks so great to see them lined up when we all meet together.

The motto of this is: See it – love it. Drive it – Love it. Own it – Love it. We just love it.

Can't say I've had such goodluck. Do about 2500 miles a year and still get a huge bill just to pass an MOT. Parts which seem to have to be replaced after only two years wear!
