1994 Mazda MX6 2.5 V6 GT 2.5 V6

Summary:

Why did they discontinue this car?

General Comments:

My god, I only bought this car by chance, I was looking at various options and a local dealer, whom I have bought cars of in the past, had one. I trusted him went along to look and was smitten. It is 8 years old and the one previous owner has maintained it fastidiously, the only faults are a couple of stone chips.

Everything works!!! It’s the first time I’ve ever bought a second hand car that I can say this about. Why did they discontinue this car? Smooth power throughout the range. Good handling at speed, but watch the backend in the wet. Comfortable yes, very, the rear seats are only for kids and my daughter loves them. Good MPG for a V6 about 32 per gallon, mixed driving conditions. Reasonable sized boot unless you go for large suitcases. Great sound system (Grundig) not sure if that’s stock, but it’s certainly a lovely quality sound. Good looking, gets peoples attention without being considered “flash” and people actually let me out from side roads!!! Great finish inside apart from various squeaks and rattles which were easily cured. All in all an absolute pleasure to drive – if you’ve never seen one and that’s what puts you off driving and owning one, do not let that stop you. Oh yes one horrible flaw the alloys are well at best they can be described as ermmmmmm bland. Unless…

…the servicing costs are horrendous £200 for 130K service – oil + filter + checking various bits. No way, I will DIY at least I know things have been done!

Can anyone from Mazda tell me why the car was discontinued????

Please can you help me deal with the rattle in the dash of my MX6. You said you easily dealt with rattles, please explain.

Easy way to deal with rattles is to adjust your throttle idle up just a hair. Not much at all, but it keeps the inner parts from rattling your brain to death! Haha. Not the most direct approach, but it definitely helps!

I have the same rattle. It is my tilt steering lever. Try holding it tight in place when you hear the rattle, and see if it goes away. Hope that helps.

1993 Mazda MX6 2.5 V6 fuel injection

Summary:

Great fun good on gas

Faults:

I have recently brought my m. x. 6, so up to now, touch wood I have not had any problems.

General Comments:

When I first saw the mx6 I liked what I saw and after driving a pals car which was up for sale I decided to start looking for one. I was lucky and found one the next day I think this is one of the best cars I have ever drove and I am reliving my youth.I wish I could have had one in my youth.

1992 Mazda MX6 GT 2.5 V6

Summary:

Looks and performance are great

Faults:

Boots front replaced every MOT.

Wheel bearings replaced once, not expensive if you don't go to dealer!

LAMBDA sensors replaced and cat, expensive for sensors, dealer part only. Cat cost £150.00, dealer wanted £450.00. Look around for parts.

General Comments:

Love my MX6, would not swop for world (well not unless it was a Dodge Viper).

Fast, very reliable, chicks love it!

Handles very well.

Corners like it's on rails.

Best colour is silver, no other colour does it justice.

Too much brake dust so lots of cleaning alloy wheels.

1996 Mazda MX6 GT 2.5 V6 petrol

Faults:

Only niggles have been with the radio/cassette (which is basic) and the dealer fitted Mazda alarm (which has a tendency to go off if sunny or windy).

General Comments:

It's the best car I have had. Performance is superb, it runs sweetly and is cheap to service (£148 for my 27,000 mile service). It's a shame that Mazda have stopped producing it for the UK.

1995 Mazda MX6 LS 2.5 V6 petrol

Faults:

Nothing - it is 2 years old and I have only replaced the tyres - it is the best car I have ever been in.

General Comments:

It runs fast but if you add some performance parts you can really pick some speed up - it's a wonderful car.

1993 Mazda MX6 2.5i GT 2.5 24v V6 petrol

Faults:

Many rattles and shakes in the dash and doors. Exhaust needed replacing after 40,000 miles. A/C pipe split...on the hottest day of the year..replacement part (1 pipe) cost over 150 quid! Stock brakes not up to task. Can be difficult to get gearbox into reverse.

General Comments:

Quick enough....but 2.5 litres of V-6 should be faster in the midrange. The engine while powerful is lazy and a bit slow to rev, although it sings happily along at 5000+ rpm all day. Chassis is not stiff enough. Long distance cruising effortless and relaxing. Handling good rather than great. Cheap plastic dash. Endless wind leaks around frameless windows...dealers less than useless at fixing them.
