1994 Mazda MX6 LS 2.5L V6 from North America

Summary:

All around good car

Faults:

I had to change the CV Joints ($160), valve cover gaskets ($60), oil sending unit ($3.00) and power window switch ($50.00). As you can see all the parts where cheap, I do all the work myself so I didn't have to pay labor.

General Comments:

Great car, I've put a aftermarket clutch, lightened flywheel, borla exhaust, and a test pipe on her and she pulls hard. She can take 5.0 mustangs and is very fun to drive. Using a G-Tech I measured my 0-60 to be about 6.6seconds.

I have a 94 MX6 with the Auto Transmission.

The HOLD button (though I would like to hear other folks comments) is used to hold the current gear while accelerating. As you know, the automatic transmission will shift gears when a certain RPM is hit. If your racing, you might want to hold the acceleration a little into the red. You can pop on the HOLD with your thumb and continue accelerating, then pop it off and the car will shift gears. I once spun tires at 45mph switching from 1st to 2nd using this technique. Pretty cool, but I've heard its not good for the tranny.

Summary:

Why did they discontinue this car?

General Comments:

My god, I only bought this car by chance, I was looking at various options and a local dealer, whom I have bought cars of in the past, had one. I trusted him went along to look and was smitten. It is 8 years old and the one previous owner has maintained it fastidiously, the only faults are a couple of stone chips.

Everything works!!! It’s the first time I’ve ever bought a second hand car that I can say this about. Why did they discontinue this car? Smooth power throughout the range. Good handling at speed, but watch the backend in the wet. Comfortable yes, very, the rear seats are only for kids and my daughter loves them. Good MPG for a V6 about 32 per gallon, mixed driving conditions. Reasonable sized boot unless you go for large suitcases. Great sound system (Grundig) not sure if that’s stock, but it’s certainly a lovely quality sound. Good looking, gets peoples attention without being considered “flash” and people actually let me out from side roads!!! Great finish inside apart from various squeaks and rattles which were easily cured. All in all an absolute pleasure to drive – if you’ve never seen one and that’s what puts you off driving and owning one, do not let that stop you. Oh yes one horrible flaw the alloys are well at best they can be described as ermmmmmm bland. Unless…

…the servicing costs are horrendous £200 for 130K service – oil + filter + checking various bits. No way, I will DIY at least I know things have been done!

Can anyone from Mazda tell me why the car was discontinued????

Please can you help me deal with the rattle in the dash of my MX6. You said you easily dealt with rattles, please explain.

Easy way to deal with rattles is to adjust your throttle idle up just a hair. Not much at all, but it keeps the inner parts from rattling your brain to death! Haha. Not the most direct approach, but it definitely helps!

I have the same rattle. It is my tilt steering lever. Try holding it tight in place when you hear the rattle, and see if it goes away. Hope that helps.

Summary:

A classic style with great performance

Faults:

The air conditioning needed a new condenser and belt at 70000.

General Comments:

I am 6' 4" and the cabin is a little small for me, but I still fit.

The car goes exactly where you want it to go. It has great road manners.
